Warning! Microsoft Made Its Own Windows Vista vs. Windows XP

Tip: Click here to update all your PC's outdated driversWarning! Microsoft authored its very own Windows Vista vs. Windows XP comparison. They say that a picture is worth a thousand words, and that is why I included a .PNG image of the Redmond company's Vista vs. XP toward the bottom of this article.
And just forget about the thousand words or so, the comparison comes complete with Microsoft's commentary. The Redmond company's approach is delicious to say the least, and it should make for a fine read. But let’s get down to business, shall we?
Wow No. 1! The first topic of differentiation between the two operating systems is, of course, security. Windows Vista was repeatedly applauded as the most secure operating system to date. And until now I bet that you had no idea why. No, it’s not the User Account Control, the Kernel Patch Protection or the mandatory driver signing. It's all because of Windows Defender. "Windows Defender protects your computer against the latest generation of threats, such as worms and spyware," Microsoft reveals about Vista while in XP "Windows File Protection prevents you or your applications from accidentally changing the core operating system files. This helps protect your system proactively and automatically."
Therefore, Vista offers enhanced protection. Wow! Now as far as I know, Windows Defender is also available on Windows XP. But hey, who am I to go against Microsoft?
Wow No. 2! Vista brings to the table "improved performance [meaning] quicker startup, shut down and resume as well as faster application and file loading." Of course that XP is nothing compared to Vista, as the previous version of the Windows operating system only improves on the performance of Windows 98(!!!)... Right... The truth is that Vista does deliver "improved performance and increased reliability," especially after the two Compatibility, Performance and Reliability Packs from August designed to resolve compatibility, performance and reliability issues... Hugh?
Wow No. 3! The Sidebar! "Windows Sidebar is a future technology that connects your desktop with powerful yet easy to use "gadgets"-mini-applications that help you to be more productive in your daily life at work, at home, or on the go," Microsoft reveals. And as far as the company is concerned, this feature is unavailable in XP. Well... I'm pretty sure that Google Desktop has some features common to the Windows Sidebar, but again, Microsoft has to know better...
Wow No. 4! UI! Meaning the graphical user interface, or Windows Aero. "The Windows Vista Aero user interface provides enhanced visual feedback which enables greater productivity and richer experiences on your PC," Microsoft stated, adding that "Aero is a significant leap in Windows UI development." Let me get this straight. Transparent window borders are a leap in UI development? Hmm... I wonder what they'll think of next? Maybe moving the minimize/maximize and close buttons from the top right hand side to the top left hand side. Now such an initiative would be beyond a leap, it will be a revolution in UI design!
Wow No. 5! RAM. With Vista, you will be able to "harness the power of up to 16GB of RAM." I don't know what kind of distribution of Linux the Microsoft employee who authored the RAM bit was running, but Vista can go as far as 128 GB of RAM. Although... 16...128, no big difference there, I can see how one could have gotten the two confused...
Wow No. 6! Safe Sleep & Quick Resume. "Combines the speed of Standby mode and the data protection and low power consumption of Hibernate," Microsoft touted. I thought that the point was to fix once and for all the Shut down and boot processes of Windows XP, but no... Microsoft dodged that and instead introduced Sleep mode. That's the Redmond company for you... betting on the winning horse.

i currently am using the vista sidebar in my windows xp install lol.
msft
couldn't be pulling more shit out of their asses with that one and i got to say i love
the way this article was written i was laughing through and through.
lol how they make it so you cant get ie 7 for xp, lol.
that chart was as useful as
a monkey driving a taxi
this all makes me glad i went to linux
after such a bunch of incredible commercial stupidities, this also makes me happy keeping
my old xp...
"maybe moving the minimize/maximize and close buttons from the top right hand side to
the top left hand side. now such an initiative would be beyond a leap, it will be a
revolution in ui design!"
lolz!!!!!!
rofl !!!!!!!!!
google desktop is spyware.
also, the sidebar for xp is not the same. it doesn't run all the sidebar applications,
and it crashes a lot.
oh yeah...vista has definately remedied a few xp bugs that i found annoying. i just
can't remember what they are now. there *is* a short list though.
what about the flip 3d feature that powns lol
how about the instantaneous searching capability? and i don't know about you guys, but
my cable internet throughput is *much* faster with vista. how about evr video rendering?
much better than vmr9 tearing! how about the fact than when you have the explorer set to
show extensions in vista, it highlights only the file name when you rename the file...not
the extension as well, like xp does. not much, but still, some xp annoyances have been
rectified.
i wouldn't say rectified by any stretch. there is too much "hidden" in vista. i find
serching for a file much more time consuming in vista than xp. vista = flash. xp pro =
performance.
microsoft is continuing with their propaganda to promote vista vs xp.
vista is
a flop and they are "applauding it" and still not admitting to another flop like winme
was. vista is a marketing scam to fatten their pockets. the technological step is not high
enough with xp and privacy has been compromised with 20-30 call-home imbedded hidden
processes and services. corporate greed + denial of failiure + privacy breech = vista.
the simple truth is they are doing what a friend of mine was doing when he went
to alcoholic anonymous meetings and that is to "fake it 'till they make it" well my
friend who was an alc did make it after faking to be cured for many years, but microsoft
will not make it with vista. operating systems are a losing business proposition.
microsoft should simply be giving the full operating system away instead of trying to milk
the cow all of the time and do the pockets of people.
to microsoft ceo, it is
like the war. you can't win the war and the public opinion if the war was started on a
lie no matter how many more lies you tell or no matter how many more time you change the
story afterwards. same thing with vista. better to just come clean and tell the truth then
people will at least give you a better chance and you will gain a bit more respect rather
than putting out propaganda that addresses the people like if we were caddle.
stupidest comparison ever. you can run windows defender on xp (or optionally use a better
third party program) so that first point is false. the part saying xp improves on 98 is
ridiculous, the whole thing is stupid. whoever wrote that list was obviously pretty
desperate to come up with ways of making vista sound better than xp.
well, i haven't found even one feature that would make me want to choose xp over windows
2000. just name one! only problem with win2k now is that it won't survive another
hardware upgrade and there is no 64-bit version so i'm going straight for vista. xp is
the home edition of win2k and running home edition is for n00bas!
hello, you're an idiot. how is xp the home edition of windows 2000 when it has every
single feature 2k has and more, as well as being a currently supported os while 2k is
dead? oh and you admit you've never even used it. idiot.
reading this has made that much clearer how pathetic this so called "upgrade" to vista
really is, that even m$ themselves don't have a valid point!
win.defender is just as
useless as win.firewall, ie, they are both the worst;
what performance, the one it
gets from gobbling pc resources dry?
there is nothing technologically impressive
about aero & innumerable artists can do better artistcally;
sidebar is worthless
unless you're one of those with post-its stuck on the side of your monitor;
in time
vista security will be exploited just like all the rest;
xp hibernates and resumes
just as well;
which average user needs ram use on a server scale?
this is just
ridiculous, i hoped some real improvements were still hidden deeper down, but evidently
there are none worth bothering about. the best hope is to mention that the network
doesn't give so much trouble anymore, it's nice to see album art for icons, better
search (but damn indexer can't be shut off!)& the little extension thing imperator
mentioned above, beyond that, :p
what a waste of excitement. the probable reason for
so many sales is that some can't resist "upgrading" & there rest had high hopes (which
were no doubt soon dashed). sigh... this is what happens when technology is forced
"forward" by commerce, rather than improved for the sake of technology.
just
a view... all due respect to those that put effort into it.
wow!!
please give me a "wow" fellas!
all together:
wow!!
i like xp
xp will live forever.
vista is a slow piece of shit.
it will always depend on your decision's people! as for me? i'm using both system just
to better see its major differences. i myself can say that xp has a better performance
than vista, in the other way around vista has a lot of flashy items one can want to
discover. but for now let the time past so that this vista can be more polish. or just
waite for windows 7 (vienna)
and i hope ms wont be a resource hog like their
precious vista
for me it dpn on your ram & your processor...i run dual boot for my acer aspire
5050...vista ultimate & xp pro sp2...xp is more faster than vista...but like what i say my
ram only 512mb...i thing that the reason why vista is slower than xp....
windows vista is the most worthless piece of shit os on the face of the earth. about
1000times worse than even windowsme. this worthless piece of shit cant even install nero
burning rom. it runs 0 games, well real games, like gta unreal tournament, splintercell,
you cant do shit for nothin with vista, just go kill yourself if you like vista even a
little bit, please
contrary to the above comment.. i do like vista. but only after i've tinkered with some
of it's stuff first. tweaking a bit, so to speak.
i'm angered a bit that it won't
run some of my old games without said tweaking, but hopefully that's fixed in the near
future.
if you have a fast up-to-date computer why downgrade it to a spectrum 48k by installing
vista. it doesn't make sense. xp is everything i want and need, death to vista.
