Microsoft Buries Windows XP in Windows Vista

Windows XP might not be officially declared expired, but Microsoft has done its best to completely drown the operating system in Windows Vista references. Want to witness first hand the Redmond company's desperation to push Vista over XP?

Then simply make your way to the official Microsoft Windows XP webpage. Alternatively, you can simply click on the first image at the bottom of this article. I have already highlighted a few focus areas for you. Although this page is supposedly reserved for Windows XP, the volume of Vista references far outweighs the mentions of its predecessor operating system, ostracized at the bottom of the screen.

But maybe Windows XP is too much of a "general" concept for Microsoft and associated with Windows Vista instead. No problem. You could always try and get specific information about Windows XP Home Edition, Professional Edition, Media Center Edition, Tablet PC Edition and Professional x64 Edition. There should be absolutely no problem there, right? Wrong! Well, if you are looking for Windows XP Media Center Edition and the Professional x64 Edition then you are all set. These two editions of the XP operating system have not been corrupted by Windows Vista.

But when it comes to the remaining three editions... The Windows XP Home Edition will deliver all you need to know about Windows Vista Home Premium. The webpage for Windows XP Professional features the Windows Vista Business edition as a top story. And Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 is just an excuse to advertise Windows Vista Ultimate. Now, in all fairness Microsoft should push Windows Vista to the foreground in the detriment of XP. After all, Vista can only grow in the space currently occupied by Windows XP on the operating system market. But do you think that Microsoft should exercise just a tad of subtlety?

Vista Overkill

By DrKar on 27.07.2007 - 07:07
i guess microsoft thinks everyone has piles of cash laying around to go out and buy up vista. i wonder what the final figure of xp operating systems are out there? maybe microsoft needs to loose 50% of the market to other os's before they wake up and not abandon thier customer base with poor support.

I agree

after windows95 they started to believe they could sell even rubbish. many people say that xp 6 years ago was like vista now. but at that time there was no choice... you had to stick with windows. now there is ubuntu and even dell, ibm and hp are starting to sell pcs with linux preinstalled. macosx is selling well considered that you have to buy a mac (a bit expensive...) to use it.
if at ms they have to touch the bottom to change their mind, well they're on the right way. i would like to recommend bill gates the reading of a fairly famous book: the mytical man-month by fred brooks. i believe vista resembles by many ways the old mistake-os made by ibm (os/360). if they don't change their mind one of the dinosaurs drawning into the tar pool on the front page of the book might be their next os.

whilst i have to agree with you, you seem to base it in facts that are utterly wrong.

when xp was released, severall distros of linux had already very powerfull graphical installation procedures and were very simple to use. on top ot this, comparing xp (with the classical interface) with 2000, there aren't many big diferences for the normal user. the same cannot be said for vista. i actually felt like i lost control on many things - my personal opinion is that it was developed having novices and mac users in mind.

os/360? i think you may be refering to os/2. a system that although labeled a failure was still very much alive and working in many big organisations. it was actually a very good os.

don't get me wrong, i don't like vista, unfortunately, we will have to live with it and support it. and this is what is driving me mad!

linux is getting simpler

By MrGrumpy on 28.07.2007 - 10:07
when i said simple i was refering to the installation procedure around the year 2001.
but now that you mention it, linux isn't that bad. true, when linux started, somethings were a pain, but dos was nearly the same. you had to learn it.
nowadays, some distros allow you to install an application file in the same way that you would do with windows.

at the end of the day, i have to support both platforms. to be honest with you. microsoft has its onw users and it works for then, in the same that linux has its users and ...

cheers

Think again

hi ! i not totally understand what about this topic, but i have experienced in computer using and i know all about windows operating systems. i allwasy use this, linux have a very " lagg " from windows so it will be taken many years until they will make an universal operating system like windwos. by the way the windows family need and allways need to be become new and have to update, so in time the later windows versions will be unusuable becouse of the innovations and high upgrading of pc world. so i think this problem about windows xp to windows vista is overtalked, when windows xp was released i was used windows 98 secound edition for a year ? why ? cause my computer is not changed, that's all.

Another OS
