Perform a Windows Vista Suicide by Pressing Just 2 Keys

section: windows, for your questions: KezNews forum, 14.7.2007

Windows Vista can be completely killed by pressing a simple combination of just two keys. All you need to crush Microsoft's latest operating system and put the much-applauded Wow at an end is two fingers. Thanks to odeeee for this news.

This issue has been reported independently of Microsoft, and the Redmond company has failed to issue any official comment at the time of this article. The immediate question which comes to mind is if the problem is a security vulnerability or a simple bug.

Either way, you too can watch Windows Vista die in front of your eyes. To make matters worse, the key combination is one of the most utilized keyboard shortcuts in Windows. Pressing the Windows key together with "E" will start Computer in Windows Vista. Keeping the two keys pressed will open a large volume of Computer windows. Want to crush Windows Vista? Nothing could be simpler. Just keep the two keys pressed for more than 20 – 30 seconds.

The operating system will begin to behave aberrantly and will continue to open Computer instances flooding the desktop. There is no way to restore Vista to its normal self, outside of a reboot. With Computer windows cascading on your desktop, you will soon find that Task Manager cannot be accessed. The same is valid for additional processes. You will have to restart the operating system in order to restore Vista.

"It took millions of dollars to make Windows Vista secure and stable. While I am happy that Windows Vista is so much stable than Windows XP; there is a bullet proof way to crash WindowsVista. A simple service which loops a thousand times while sending Windows Key + E can be written within ten minutes. Microsoft may have spent millions of dollars for security and stability; it takes two fingers or a simple service to crash Windows Vista down. No matter how bullet proof Windows Vista claims to be, two keys to crash the operating system is a bullet proof approach as well," revealed the author of the crash method on TechTicles.

In its present form, the bug seems to create nothing more than a Denial of Service condition. It remains to be seen if it can be exploited remotely or if it permits code execution. Still, I’d put my money on a bug, rather than on a security vulnerability.

Vista DRM

By Mary on 15.07.2007 - 01:07
by now everyone should realize vista is about drm, as we all can see such poor coding that just two keyboard keys can cause...

6 billion dollars, and something so easy to cause vista to crash?

that's because vista isn't what it claims to be all about... more security?

you got to be crazy... to take microsoft's word for it... ask the hackers that have found the many bugs to exploit... that should be enough real proof here...

^ That

By Doomed! on 15.07.2007 - 04:07
my windows didn't crash but an error came up and not i can't right click on the "105 windows explorer" tab. i guess i have to restart.

This is boring

By samic on 15.07.2007 - 05:07
it only takes one key to incapacitate a computer, namely "power button". a computer is only as secure as the user who's using it. you don't even need "a simple service which loops a thousand times". anyone can write and run a simple batch file that will format your harddrive in 10 second. if you're that stupid to let someone messing with your computer, you shouldn't have a computer.

I tried it for over a minute. Reboot and PC boot at normal??!

why Vista?

By dos6.2 on 15.07.2007 - 05:07
i still don't know why anyone would buy vista when the promises for all previous versions were found wanting. i still have more bugs & crashes with xp sp2 than i did with w98se.

Dos 6.2 is a dweeb

By Orenthal Simpson on 15.07.2007 - 12:07
dos6.2 - you have crashes with xp-sp2? how? i leave mine up for a month at a time, minimum, with no problems. maybe you should run a virus scan once in a while.

At dos6.2

By skfoue on 15.07.2007 - 12:07
stay away from a computer, you are dangerous to them, like orenthal simpson said, run a virus scan... if you know what a virus scanner is...

if you haven't been randomly downloading .exe's like a noob you are most likely smoking pot.

At subject

By goos on 15.07.2007 - 13:07

By xavier on 16.07.2007 - 05:07
dont use vista

Not quite right

By Bill on 16.07.2007 - 08:07
if you stay enough time, you can select "close group" from taskbar. the time depend of how much memory has your computer and how long have you pressed the keys. no bug there. same in xp, but xp need less memory ressources.

solution

By wanker on 16.07.2007 - 16:07
just hold alt + f4 and it gradually closes them all of

Perform a Windows Vista Suicide by Pressing Just 2 Keys

By JFDisney on 16.07.2007 - 20:07
to be honest do you think that the average pc user will know to press those keys at the same time (there are more average pc users than there are hackers/techies). let alone hold them down for that long. i do not think it is a bug or a flaw. more or less a way to utilize all of the machine's memory at once and crash it. i am sure that it is a neat little trick to use on someone that annoys you or if you just want to have fun with someone.

To Billy Bob

By Linux & Windows User on 16.07.2007 - 20:07
you should read more about linux before writing such things, it makes you look more retarded 'cause what you've said are old news.

linux has matured so much that in some aspects has beat windows, surely it still needs more of that "user-friendly" and programs that works on such os like photoshop, 3ds max, some games (majority) and so on...

anyway, i don't want to start a discussion here. everybody is free to use whatever os they like. i use both of them... windows for playing and linux for working, both os has their pros and cons.

Oh.....

By Billy Bob on 16.07.2007 - 21:07
can i play games on linux without a shitty emulator? hmmm.... doesn't seem old to me...

can i use photoshop cs3 on linux... hmmm... no..

now some points:

linux is not ready for grandma or a gamer, or for anyone other than hackers and people who like playing with themselves.

all linux users are still virgins.

oh and the bsd license is infinitely superior to the gpl

one more thing...

$699 is the fee you legally owe sco if you use linux, is $300 more than the price windows server 2003 web edition, which has more features, greater stability, and has been shown time and time again to have a higher roi.

a few more points...

fun things you can do on linux

update your drivers.
brag about your kernels.
say you use linux
uh, well thats pretty much it.

why is linux so shitty?

linus torvalds - unoriginal code thief from mars

alan cox - the theo de raadt of linux and drunk

hans reiser - crazy murderer who lived in a cave

opengraphics - professional failure stolen from someone

slashdot - asperger's syndrome victims

need i say more...

Grandma uses linux!

By grandpa on 17.07.2007 - 06:07

grandson put it on our computer after our windows xp home kept getting viruses on it when we browsed the web. now we use ubuntu and can browse the web and read email. we can even play card games and pinball if we want. not all of us need those games with all the detail and blood to play.

i opened nearly 300 my computers, and was able to recover. dell inspiron 1501, 32 bit vista ultimate, 1 gig ram and amd athlon x2 64bit dual core.

1 min

By mrjoe on 30.07.2007 - 16:07
i held the two keys for a minute and then just closed the group. yeah, it did lag for like 5 seconds.
dell xps410, ultimate x64, 4gb ram, core 2 duo 2.4ghz
yes, maybe that's why

core 2 makes the diffrent!?

By hugins on 31.07.2007 - 13:07
i suppose that you can crach vista if you have a slow computer (processor&ram). i has also tried to crach vista with these two keys, with no success, and thats was ok for me;=)

HOLY SHIT

By ChrisMRuLZ on 02.08.2007 - 06:08
i just crashed windows xp with 3 keys:
ctrl + alt + delete (press twice).
it must be a bug!

oh i just did it again by pressing start then up + enter two times.

ohh not again, i held down the internet shortcut key on my logitech keyboard for 5 minutes.
surprisingly it opened alot of internet windows and crashed!

p.s. note the sarcasm morons.
there are plenty of things you can do to fk up windows.
it's not made for you to pissfuk around and hold down keys.

the key combinations are shortcut to programs and functions. if you decide to repeat that 100x and use up all your system resources it's your own fault!
p.s.p.s. +1 to billy bob :p
who the fark uses linux other than for servers?

you want linux?
press f8 at windows startup and boot in 'safe mode with command-prompt'.
there you go, now you can 'customize' everything you want.

sure you can customize more in linux..
you have to customize everything cos the dev's didn't program it.
so you'll have to write an essay-sized block of code just to play a video. (which would have to be a low-def video, not hd video, with third-party beta drivers made by some colledge student - as opposed to a company that spends billions that make good quality ones).

linux is only for shitkents that don't want to play games (dx9 let alone dx10 and 10.1), watch movies, or.. anything else you use a computer for.

so fek off with the linux shit. it's getting old.
the hardware and software companies don't support linux becuase it's shit. so why should we?

Oh, and another thing,

By ChrisMRuLZ on 02.08.2007 - 06:08
windows is easy to pirate.
to get a 'good' linux you have to pay a shitload for a license because nobody cbf cracking it.

but i suppose you could 'customize' the cracking experience, cos you'd have to be doing it all by yourself.

2 buttons of doom

By die by fire on 05.08.2007 - 22:08
why do this ? anyone ? isnt vista screwy enough ? are you actually reporting this probem ? snitches

By flamandu on 09.08.2007 - 12:08
i held the two keys for 40 seconds and then just closed the group. i did lag for 15 seconds.
i have a core 2 1.86 ghz 2gb ram and vista ultimate.

i agree with hugins , core 2 processors makes the diference!
long live intel!
