A Vista bug is frustrating some users with extra-long wait times to move, copy or delete files. Microsoft has acknowledged the flaw and produced a hot fix for it, but users must call the company's support line to obtain the patch.
A thread on a Vista support forum has been active since late January, with users regularly complaining of ultraslow file operations on the new OS. The volume of messages spiked today.
"I downloaded a 1.8GB file over the Internet to my D drive," a user identified as BadBlock said today. "Moving the tmp file from C to D took three times longer than downloading the file on a 6Mb connection! I'm thinking of going back to XP."
Another user was equally scathing. "I simply cannot believe that I updated to a new computer and put Windows Vista on it to find that it's not even capable of moving and deleting files in an efficient manner. The most basic of features that I use all the time is a slow train wreck. Who do they have designing these programs -- monkeys?"
According to a document on the Microsoft support database, the company has produced and tested a hot fix that solves the problem. But because the fix has not been posted for public downloading, users must contact Microsoft to obtain the patch. A US$59 support charge may apply, although Microsoft's general policy is to cancel such charges if the support representative decides the hot fix is necessary.

is there a hoxfix for vista 64?
http://rapidshare.com/files/23337348/windows6.0-kb931770-x86.msu.html
tried the kb ###1770 x86 hotfix for vista 64. it is not the correct version. anyone
know the hotfix number for the 64 bit versin?
anyone know or have the fix for x64 ultimate editions?
tried the links provided and the hotfix has been removed. can someone upload the fix to
another file sharing site?
is this hotfix thing also needed for the windows vista retail ?
cant believe microsoft trying to charge the user for fixes, if they can charge you $750
for vista ultimate in australia and the os is flawed then microsoft has a duty to supply
the fix for free as it is flawed.
that fix gave me the blue screen of death every time i booted
install it on my cracked rtm 32bit ultimate without any trouble. i can not believe the
difference. very fast copy and transfers. should be on windows update and not charged
for.
with more people using vista now, bug reports are streaming in like crazy. i've noticed
the slow down is worse than xp now (especially with the "preparing to copy" or
"preparing to delete"). i haven't had the need to copy gigs of data yet (as big as mb
i copied though.)
lastly, what is wrong with kez replacing upper case letters
to lower case here in the comments area?????
yeah, the caps issue is weird, makes us all look like retards.
that link does not work anymore...
after snooping on teh website, i found this

"the most basic of features that i use all the time is a slow train wreck. who do they
have designing these programs -- monkeys?"
actually not many people know this, but
if you were to put an infinite amount of monkeys with an infinite amount of typewriters in
a room at redmond - they could code vista in under 15 minutes! amazing huh? by the way i
wrote the "15 minutes" part in capital letters so when you read it imagine this as you
go.
:)
it dont matter how many people are affected by the issue its a bug so put it to windows
update asap.. people did not fork out there hard earned money to buy vista just for
microsoft to say ok call in and see many people are affected by the issue first b4 we put
it up on windows update..
i also hear that if you want to get the hot fix
before it gets to windows update you will have to pay 50.00 usd to get the hot fix.. so
again people did not fork out there hard earned money to buy vista just for microsoft to
say ok call in and see many people are affected by the issue first b4 we put it up on
windows update but if you want it before we put in up on windows update you will have to
pay 50.00 usd..
unfortunately i bought vista32 ultimate before i knew of all these problems but everyone
should just get vista cracked version from somewhere and use that till billy goat tosser
fixes the main bugs! he should not get a penny till vista gets out of "beta" !!!
