Windows Live Messenger Service Outage

link: original article - section: microsoft

The Windows Live Messenger service is reportedly inaccessible by various users around the world. Reports are also prevelant of other Windows Live ID-supported sites not functioning, such as Hotmail, MSN Web Messenger and Microsoft Connect.

Service reliability has been hit hard in recent months, with a number of outages lasting over 3 hours and affecting more than 75% of the user base. Whilst Microsoft is usually quick to respond internally through their Hi-Pri incident system msnalerts, the public are rarely notified through the expected channels such as the Service Status page or other Microsoft sites.

More soon.

Update: Service availability appears to be improving, but 100% availability is yet to be achieved.

Update: Service is returning to normal, no problems for users now trying to connect.
