Is Microsoft sabotaging its own products?

section: microsoft, for your questions: KezNews forum, 8.3.2007

No, this cannot be the case. Perhaps is is an accident, or a coincidence. But is Microsoft really highlighting links to websites that have references to cracks for Windows Vista? And you wonder why the piracy of Microsoft software is blooming.

Now, truth be told, the actual mechanism of website indexation is automated. And the results of a search are generated in relation to an algorithm that is specific to each search engine. However, Microsoft's Related Searches area in the top right hand corner of the search space, is not doing any good for the Redmond Company. At least as far as looking for products cracks is concerned.

In the screenshot at the bottom you are able to see the results that Microsoft Live Search has returned to the general query “Windows Vista Crack.” Also, to offer a comparison, the same image contains the results delivered by Google. You can clearly say that Google is doing a far better job at protecting Microsoft's products than the Redmond Company itself. At least Google is not highlighting anything in particular.

The same cannot be said for Live Search, due to the fact that Microsoft's search engine has found and displayed results matching the terms of the query but is also proposing to users to additionally search for: “Crack Windows Vista CTP,” “Windows Vista Activation Crack,” “Windows Vista 5308 Cracks,” “Windows Vista Beta 2 Crack” and “Windows Vista 5270 Crack.”

So just in case you run out of inspiration for what cracks to search for Microsoft's software, and in particular for Windows Vista, just head over at Live Search and let the Redmond Company tell you. In all fairness, I have to say that the actual results point to informative articles and not to the cracks themselves. So if you are looking for information about Vista cracks you will have no problem. On the other hand I tried the 1,384,149 results only with the tip of my finger...

i think they encourage the pirates to try and crack vista, they are so sure it is a secure os...

this is misleading

well this article is misleading. all it shows is that microsoft is trying to create a better search engine then google has. and like it or not, those related searches it brought up are related searches. this person who wrote the article is trying to grasp at straws here. microsoft isn't deliberately trying to sabotage it's own products. this is just a search engine doing what its programmed to do.

pyrates is right, i doubt that any of those other search terms would come up at all, if you hadn't had it in your mind in the first place to search for windows vista crack

Totally misleading...

this is totally misleading...none of this content is actually a part of or hosted by microsoft...it just so happens the embedded search engine just pulled up relevant links from the web...not exclusive content to microsoft.

i guess google condones keygens and cracks as those items come up in any search for any given software title...total nonsense.

misleading

what a waste of time. learn to develop a thesis before you try to prove something bogus as that.

agreed, misleading

google's search: results 1 - 10 of about 3,890,000 for windows vista crack. (0.05 seconds)
windows live search: windows vista crack
page 1 of 1,944,616 results

so as we see, even though i searched for the same term, google still returned nearly 2 million more results.

another example
google: results 1 - 10 of about 184,000 for keznews. (0.05 seconds)
live.msn.com live search:
keznews
page 1 of 8,705 results

or maybe microsoft isn't filtering the search. i think their search engine just isn't as powerful. all it does is suggest similar searches..

does this make any sense to anyone?

i prefer google, for velocity and indexing, but i don't find right this attacks to microft based not on real fact, but distorsion of reality.

live search find in related sites of vista crack = microsoft help pirates

even if it's only a joke, too many people think this true.
