Microsoft Confirms Brute Force Windows Vista Crack

section: windows, for your questions: KezNews forum, 8.3.2007

Windows Vista KeyGen is a tool based on SLMGR, the vbs script used as the Licensing Manager in the operating system. Microsoft has confirmed the existence of the Vista hack and the method used. Vista KeyGen is designed to crack out legitimate and valid Windows Vista activation keys.

However, a representative from the Windows Genuine Advantage team downplayed the brute force Vista hack.

“The attack randomly searches for legit keys. This is called a brute force attack because there really isn't much intelligence involved and the goal is to just randomly cycle through key after key after key until a legit one is found. One report indicates that the script written to perform this attack goes through about a thousand keys every half an hour; frankly, that's a pretty slow brute force attack,” said Alex Kochis, senior product manager of WGA (Windows Genuine Advantage).

A pretty slow brute force attack translates to the Windows Vista KeyGen crack searching some 20,000 product keys per hour. And at the end of several hours of continuous activity the hack can still return nothing. Additionally, in the eventuality that the Vista KeyGen crack does produce a legitimate product key for the operating system, it could still be invalidated by the Microsoft servers.

“Our product activation servers perform a more rigorous analysis of the keys that are sent up for activation than the local key logic does. For this reason producing keys that will ultimately activate is less likely than just hitting upon one that will pass the local logic. But if anyone does hear of a report of a legit customer being refused a product activation on a genuine key please let us know,” Kochis revealed.

Legitimate customers that encounter issues with the validity of their Windows Vista product keys will be dealt with at the level of Microsoft's customer service. The Redmond Company revealed that it is currently investigating the issue. “We're looking more deeply into this issue now and I'll post more info soon,” Kochis added.

Public Relations! HURRY! The fire is hot!

By alienwarrior75 on 08.03.2007 - 13:03
this is a typical response from a large-no-one-can-touch-us corporation. i can't wait until they fall of the face of the earth.

fuck you microsoft.

MS in its knees

By Reb0ot on 08.03.2007 - 14:03
i disagree, i think its one of the few times when ms agrees with hacks to their os.

!!!!!!!

By Faltzer on 08.03.2007 - 17:03
muhaaaaaa!!!!

ms should die!!!!

long live the gospel netmafia!!!

I knew it

By pyrates on 08.03.2007 - 19:03
i knew this worked. and all i can say is, "i told you so". yes i did post the video showing it worked. it's a brute force method. and it seems that when you find one key that works. you can then find other keys that work quite quickly. my guess is because the keys are generated for the installs one after another. so for example if the key 1111111 worked, then 1111112 would work too because it came right after the first one. that's why i think you can find keys easily once you find the first one.

Respect for M$

By NoCanCrackIt on 08.03.2007 - 19:03
respect for m$: none can really crack vista (or prove otherwise and stop shouting!!!).

I don't understand you guys

By Someone on 08.03.2007 - 20:03
i used the legal rc version of vista for more than a month.
the design, including the sidebar, is awesome, besides that? nothing.
12-18 gb of the new os, with slightly
new features, and nice theme.
i have pretty good pc, and still,
vista is heavier than xp.
vista worked smooth to me, but xp, is just faster, much faster.
the uac is useless as i speak,
some of the programs, like visual studio
made by ms aren't compitable with vista, and the file transfer is slow as hell.

i changed back to xp, which i purchased a few years ago, and installed vista alike themes.
spending 30 minutes browsing the web, and my xp, look the same as vista, with the benefits of the good performance of good old xp.

the only reason upgrading to vista makes sense, is the directx10, which, demands
new hardware anyway,to notice any different.
that was awesome to see my second computer, ibm 600x laptop,
running vista alike theme snoothly
with xp.
btw,
think of the time you're spanding fighting your own os not to lock up.
i think, that buying os once a few years worth it.

however, currently, spending more than
200$ on nice theme with drm capabilities, doesn't worth it.

i don't know why, but vista reminds me
the release of windows me, a few years ago.

enjoy your drm embedded nice theme os,
and beware of windows updates,
that might cause your computer to lock
up, maybe tomorrow, maybe in the next month.
i suggest you all, use xp, and make
it look like vista.
just type, using google "xp vista theme".
if you don't have legal cdkey,
just buy xp.
don't fall a victim to the
drm justice day.
use xp, who knows, sooner or later,
you won't be able to buy this one.

cheers mates.

re: Respect for M$

By wizayne on 08.03.2007 - 22:03
@ nocancrackit

on the contrary, there are several methods to use vista without purchasing a valid product key from microsoft. these methods include kms, timestopper, and the new oem activation bypass.. vista's cracked in a manner of speaking :)

re: re: Respect for M$

By NoCanCrackIt on 08.03.2007 - 22:03
@someone: why does my pc performs better with vista running on it instead of xp (matter of tuning?), drm: you're right. vista for creating music with sonar: perfect..and so on...

@wizayne i call a kms, timestopper, etc. a workaround-trick, not a real crack.

To NoCanCrackIt

By Someone on 08.03.2007 - 23:03
wll, that's interesting.

have you done some benchmarks?
it might feel faster, because of
the aerog effects.
what about games?
do you have 64bit?
which version of xp did you have? (32\64)

re: To NoCanCrackIt

By NoCanCrackIt on 08.03.2007 - 23:03
benchmark: yes, 64xp/64vista: yes. games: not interested, music on x64:yes....:-)

aren't we offtopic now? i have respect for m$ and uncrackable vista.

Cheap shots!!!

Paradox 2007

By Overpriced Vista on 09.03.2007 - 00:03
the paradox 2007 team's oem activation bypass works like a charm. i don't know why everyone is making such a fuss about brute force. the chances that someone would come across a particular key that would 1) belong to the exactly correct version of vista (ultimate, business, home premium, home basic, ultimate n, business n, home premium n) and 2) not only pass the local key logic but microsoft's servers, too, is extremely remote!!!

i work at a cybertechnology centre where we have a 128 node super-cluster operating. we've optimized the coding for linux multi-threading and it's been running for 2 days. as yet, no results.

btw, we have a flesch processing power of just over 2 teraflops (your typical amd or intel pentium 4 runs at 0.01 teraflops (10 gigaflops) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/flops)

we measured a key cycle rate of 3.6 million keys an hour (1000 keys a second).

in all there are a 26^25 = 2.37e+35 possible combinations. at the speed we ran the system it would take 27404378473144396860740181.127138 centuries to cycle through all of them. and remember, this is with a highly parallel processed implementation.

frankly, microsoft has nothing to worry on this count.

it's the oem activation bypass they should be more concerned about.

emphasis on the word should because i believe bill gates is inwardly happy about the 'crack' because it only means that third-world countries and most of the rest of the world will be hostage to vista for years to come. if microsoft os'es were completelely crack-proof we would have all switched to linux/solaris etc. a long time ago. this just fits into microsoft's grand scheme of plans.

right now microsoft has a windows vista update that says in the description: "install this update to resolve an issue where you may be prompted to activate a pre-installed copy of windows vista."

frankly, i believe this is a patch that microsfot has worked out for the oem bypass. i haven't installed it because i don't want to inadvertently destroy my installation but i have my suspicions.

one of my friends who was skeptical said that if microsoft really wanted to patch up such vulnerabilities they should disguise the patches better. i told him that that would amount to installing malware / spyware on the user's machine. i'm a geniuned xp and vista user and i'd give micorosft an earful if they ever tried to suss up machine like that.

you created your operating system and all it's faults and problems; don't fiddle around with my system if you're losing revenue because someone smarter than you took the trouble to cover bases you failed to touch.

Interesting

By CyberBlade on 09.03.2007 - 01:03
well done computer user, without him i wouldn't of been able to make that video of my fx62 in action :)

top notch!

but is this ms admitting defeat? trying to keep the brute in the news while the bios trick is circling?

1 million pc running the KeGen

By DataPimp on 09.03.2007 - 09:03
@ overpriced vista

1 computer runnig this key wont do much ... but lets say if 1 million computer all run this keygen ... is could cause m$ a few probs

1 m wouldn't make a difference

By Overpriced Vista on 09.03.2007 - 12:03
@ datapimp

let's assume 1 mil ppl run it. and let's also assume (for argument's sake) that we devide the possible keys equally amongst the 1 mil users. dividing the time that would otherwise be taken, by 1 billion, we're still dealing with time on the scale of 274043784731443968.607 centuries.

the universe isn't even that old!!

that figure is 13702.189 times the age of the universe. (taking the most extreme estimate of the age of the universe ~20 bn yrs)

and remember, every user would have to cycle through all the keys himself division by 1 billion above should infact have been by 1 million. i just did it to show the impossibility of the task.

this is as likely as travelling back in time; and who knows even that may be possible one day.

1 m wouldn't make a difference

By Pete on 11.03.2007 - 13:03
@overpriced vista
unfortunately you assume in your calculations that every key must be tried by every user running the crack.
this is untrue, the crack only need be run until a working key is found.
also you dont take into account the number of keys that are valid in your calculations.
i agree the chances of this happening to a single person would be like winning the lotto, but then again, someone wins the lotto every week right...

Easy Way to Keep your Product Activated

By MisterProg on 11.03.2007 - 19:03
just disable automatic downloading and installing and hide the "activation update"... then just pick the updates you want without ever worrying about ms deactivating your cracked copy.

Brute Force Keygen

By Computer User on 12.03.2007 - 04:03
the brute force keygen was never designed to be a pratical or effective way to crack windows vista.

it was only an experiment to prove that it could be done.

a real way to "crack" vista

By THERE IS A WAY!!! on 12.03.2007 - 08:03
microsoft allows large hardware manufacturers (e.g. asus, hp, dell) to ship their products
containing a windows vista installation that does not require any kind of product activation as
this might be considered an unnecessary inconvenience for the end-user.
instead these so-called 'royalty oems' are granted the right to embed certain license information
into their hardware products, which can be validated by windows vista to make obtaining further
activation information (online or by phone) obsolete.
this mechanism is commonly referred to as 'slp 2.0' ('system-locked pre-installation 2.0') and
consists of the following three key elements:

Can some1 tell me how to activated vista??

By ICY on 12.03.2007 - 13:03

i regret to inform you.

you must disable user account control!!!!

if not the keygen is not working!
it may appear to be working but it is not!

the clony activator works

By SouLKrusheR on 23.03.2007 - 10:03
bottom line.. vista has been cracked.. face it. also this is just the beginning. give it another month and the crackers will have a completely working crack that can't be reversed.. good job bill gates making vista installable without a keycode. thats where microslop screwed up.

Microsoft is controling their products too much

By A victim of M$h!t on 27.03.2007 - 21:03
you know a reason why i """crack""" """windows xp activation""". because i legally own a copy and it's genuine from a retail store but micros#it told me you can only activate it on 1 computer. wtf i pay for xp and i get bs.

i minus well pirate instead of buying their wpa infested products.
see bill shates activation increases piracy. it does increase piracy and cracking.

you didn't think about that but only wanting to control ur legitimate users till they learn how to crack wpa too.

you lost m$$$$$. you need to learn innocent people will buy your copies and you need to learn to trust them microsoft instead of treating them like criminals.

Quit whining

By whinner on 27.03.2007 - 23:03
why don't you all stop whining about ms product and go off an install linux, if ms is so crap don't use it, at this stage there is open source products that will do pretty much everything ms products will do !
