Windows Vista Keygen a Hoax?

section: windows, for your questions: KezNews forum, 3.3.2007

The author of the Windows Vista keygen (Computer User) that was reported yesterday has admitted that the program does not actually work.

We write about Vista Brute Force Keygen 2 days ago.

Here is the initial announcement of the original release of the keygen, and here is the followup post in which the same author acknowledges that the program is fake.

Apparently, the keygen program does legitimately attack Windows Vista keys via brute force, but the chances of success are too low for this to be a practical method. Quote from the author: 'Everyone who said they got a key is probably lying or mistaken!'"

I am not a expert and I do not try it, so it can be true, but it it needn't.

this first time i want download this, that this "keygen" is a trojan, but noone want hear this

MS itself is pirate too!!

By zeppo on 03.03.2007 - 21:03
i really don't know why computer user is so scared now and how ms is scared him so much???
maybae ms just won't to force people to forget about it,but the fact is that this is the right way and soon or later someone will speed up algoritem and then the ms is in deep trouble!
also ms don't care much about justice, becouse they must pay eu i think every day milion, but so far they not pay anything!!!

Diesn't work, but no trojan..

By allegro on 03.03.2007 - 21:03
well, you're wrong. this "keygen" is no trojan. it just doesn't work as advertised. some included a tool to display the current key, which sometimes gave a false positive on antivirus scanners..

but there is no trojan to be found in the vbs, or whatever..

I SWEAR I GOT ONE

Thought so

By dj on 03.03.2007 - 22:03
kinda knew there was something amiss when in task manager i wasn't showing any network activity.

re: Thought so

By N/A on 03.03.2007 - 22:03
network activity is not required, they keygen is attacking the systems embedded in al vista installations.

pffffffft

By Pov City Hustla on 03.03.2007 - 22:03
worse keygen ever

Tim was wrong so everyone should blam him XP

By IHateTime on 03.03.2007 - 23:03
anyway yea, it wasn't a trojan. it just read your cd key, and hence, having the signature of a trojan ... aka accessing your key. the keygen isn't really a "keygen" but rather a random macro. thats all/

By snuffy on 03.03.2007 - 23:03
well some ppl have found a working key, and the new added version works better than the original.. i am sure it works but needs some work...it does have a trojan in it. if you have time let it run.. more than 1 person has found a working key...

Keygen

By SpOtTy DoGg on 03.03.2007 - 23:03
even if you dont use a serial during install vista inserts its own trial key...this is the key that the keygen finds. there is no server activity under task manager.

read the following and make up your own mind

it sounded too good to be true, and it turns out it was. keznews forum frequenter "computer user" confessed last night that his brute force keygen for windows vista is a scam. "fact is the brute force keygen is a joke, i [sic] never intended for it to work. i have never gotten it to work, everyone should stop using it! everyone who said they got a key a probably lying or mistaken!" oddly enough, adrian kingsley-hughes of zd net, who we sourced the news from yesterday, claims to have found two activation keys with this method, so it's hard to tell who to believe: a confessing prankster, or a potentially duped but trusted source. for the moment, we're going to go with computer user's word on this one, because the likelihood that microsoft would issue enough keys to make a random key generator at all viable for obtaining 25-character product keys is pretty dang slim.

Who cares?

By User on 04.03.2007 - 00:03
you people who try to download keygens are idiots. learn the negatives of illegitimacy. it will just end up costing us more anyways if it continues.

Who cares?

By Reality on 04.03.2007 - 00:03
if ms think i am paying £300+ for ultimate they can kiss my ass.

this is why i download keygens and will continue to do so. i use the softmod for vista though, because it actually works unlike this random nonsense.

till now use the softmod for OEM activation

By akujo on 04.03.2007 - 01:03

ps i dont care if any1 says something about what i said!

Ironic.

By Speculator on 04.03.2007 - 02:03
it sounds like the fellow who released the program is scared of the micro$oft giants that might come after him.

he's doing everything he can to pretend it doesn't work, when in fact it works fine.

even if his version is too slow to function, a functional version can easily be made, using his idea.

:) - maybe m$ contacted him. muhaha!

Afraid of MS lawsuit

By DCRJ on 04.03.2007 - 03:03
computer user admitted he's afraid of a ms lawsuit and prefers a job rather than that which probably why he backout from this hullabaloo. nobody is going to confirm if the keygen really works because they are all scared for a lawsuit. are you afraid of the nerdy looking bill gates ? wahahahahaha

IT CAN WORK

By GOMSO on 04.03.2007 - 03:03
it is possible to get a key but you probably have a better chance of winning the lottery. you have to run the program as administrator because you can't store the key except as administrator. you can run the program from any folder. the program will change the key if it finds a valid keyfor vista. it only checks about 1250 keys per hour so if you are lucky you might find one in a couple of months.

this also only checks what vista will accept ank not what m$ might have reserved. good luck because that is what you will need.

WHat happens when...

By Todde on 04.03.2007 - 11:03
what happens when ms block your unpaid cd key... then you're back to where you started. why not just stick with the timestop, and in my mind done nothing but stoped a counter on your side. this timestope seem more harmfull to me. or? does vista opens up when applying a real working key or what? i can use winupdate and that's just fine with me. and keep in mind, you have not paid anything for it so just be happy to have a allmost fully working system for free. :)

i'm using the timestop as a try-out until i have the money to buy the real deal. i think it's time to start paying for windows now. now when they have managed to make it useful. this is the best windows ever and now is the time to pay i think.

Brute Force Article

By SpOtTy DoGg on 05.03.2007 - 01:03
found this article on the web makes interesting reading
the numbers of vista's brute force attack

microsoft
in view of the latest vista activation brute force attack, i decided to take a look at the big numbers involved in this.

we know the key length is 25. also, there are 24 possible combinations pr slot.

based on these numbers, there are 3 552 713 678 800 500 929 355 621 337 890 625 (25^24) possible combinations. let's say there are 5 billion valid keys (keys microsoft has printed/planning to sell). 25^24 / 5 billion = 710 542 735 760 100 185 871 124 chance of hitting a valid key pr key tried. let's say you can try 480 000 keys pr day. that gives you a one in 1 480 297 366 166 875 387 chance of hitting a valid key in 24 hours.

using these numbers, we know it will take 4 055 609 222 375 001 years, or 296 029 times longer than the estimated existence of the universe (from the big bang, 13,7 billion years ago), just to find 1 valid key.

so why do people come up with working keys?
quite simply, vista probably checks the key based on mathematical formulas. it probably cant distinguish a generated key from a real one. microsoft's activation servers however will be able to tell a generated key from a real one by crosschecking with the sold-key list.

what does this mean?
it's pretty clear the keys generated by the brute force attacks will almost certainly not come up with even one key identical of the keys sold by microsoft. considering the fact microsoft almost certainly has a list of keys it has sold and has the ability to block all others, the party is soon over.

the moment microsoft starts to check keys up against their list of sold keys, activation of generated keys will be impossible.

conclusion
why this is certainly not fun for microsoft, it has bigger worries, like the recently oem activation cracks that exist out there, enabling users to activate vista without calling home to microsoft.

Vista Vulnerability

By DCRJ on 05.03.2007 - 06:03
nothing would be more satisfying than finding the holy grail of keygens. every os of ms has been vulnerable in the past, i see no change with their new vista. it's only a matter of time when we will able to finally see a workable keygen.

am i scared of bill?

By idontknow on 06.03.2007 - 05:03
" are you afraid of the nerdy looking bill gates ?"

no, but i do occasionally have nightmares about chairs being thrown at me.

hmmm why xpkeygen fast ?

By babe on 06.03.2007 - 14:03
i wondering how does the xpkeygen verse2 succed while it's too difficult to guess the functions?

and i wondering how does the xpkeygen via brute force verse 1 is quick [can be less than one hour] to get valid xp keys?

i hope those brilliant keygener found the formula for vista

keygen

By CU on 11.03.2007 - 10:03
hey guys.

it looks like microsoft doesn't care about piracy unless it involves trafficking.

so, i'm here to say, that i'm glad everyone got so excited about the keygen. it was never promised to work imediately or t all for that matter. i cannot confirm if the people who say it worked or not are lying or not. i'm just a programmer not a pshycic. but, it great to see everyone is still trying this method, even though it has been declared a hoax. its up to you whether or not you want to try it.

things to note.

there is no virus. just the keyfinder program gives false positives.

and

please stop posting info about the oem emulated bios crack. everyone knows about it. the issue here is brute force.

i guess the idea is pretty much dead however. i see no body has posted anything in a couple days.

well..i had a good run.

Brute Force

By Computer User on 12.03.2007 - 04:03
i must add that.
the keygen was never designed to be a way for people to crack vista.
it was only an experiment to prove that it could be done. once enough people confirmed it works i declared it a hoax so that people will forget about it cause it really is useless, impracticle, and inefficient.

100$ is too expensive for you ?

By Priestess on 12.03.2007 - 16:03
come on guy , think about the number of hours you will need to crack vista each time they release a new wga.

spend 100$ on a full genuine oem version and you will save so many hours of searching for a new crack/bypass .

or if you have so many hours to waste on it please get a job !!

since 70% of microsoft are of romanian ethnicity, they probably sent some thugs to squizz his bzzls and hold him out the balcony. so now he's telling us it was a joke etc...

all f*cked up

By rofl on 26.03.2007 - 22:03
i already tried about 50 cracks and keygens and so on but no one worked like advertised. this is a big game!

The whole concept of this is idiotic.

By SyberCorp on 05.04.2007 - 02:04
i developed one of the product key viewers that you can find on the internet, and because of one of the other functions built into the program, i had to be in contact with microsoft about a few things. microsoft doesn't block the "product key" from with their w.g.a. program, or from the windows/microsoft update website. they use the "product id" which is basically a variable that can be created by multiple "product keys". so, not only are the chances of this keygen making a valid key very slim, but the chances of that key not creating one of the invalid "product ids" is even less. not to mention the fact that the method that windows is activated uses a hash made from different parts of your computer, so the odds of the keygen creating a valid activation key have the lowest chance yet. granted, it is not out of the realm of possibility, but it's like trying to count how many stars there are in the sky. you could do it, but who in the hell would waste the time, if they could live long enough to do it.

ButtBoy Anal Plug Keyfinder

By ButtBoy on 15.04.2007 - 02:04
i took the challenge! i set myself a task and tried to achieve it.
i lubed myself up well and sat half way on a double wide gigadong (google it) and started the keygen. i swore i would not get off the 10 inch tall and 6 inch wide plug till i found a key. as the hours passed by i found myself sliding further down the dong and it was becoming nearly unbearable due to the pain of stretching but i promised to see it through. at last i hit the bottom and the whole dong impaled me and i screamed in pain and needed to eject it. luckily a few minutes later the keygen found a good key and i oozed out the plastic monster. got a key at the price of a gape as big as the grand canyon!

Anti-Piracy Makes Pirate!!!

By MaddenedMan on 16.04.2007 - 16:04
i strongly believe in paying for something if you are going to use it.
i paid for vista home premium.
had to change the motherboard 1 week later.
vista wants to re-register, and in doing so tells me i need a new licence.
call support tell me i have to buy a new licence if the motherboard changes.

gues what: i am now looking for a crack, a hack, a working free copy etc.
microsoft has gon toooooo far

what say you???
