Details of the European PS3 launch have been officially unveiled by Sony. The console will only be available in the premium 60GB model at launch, and will retail for 599EUR and 425GBP.

Sony expects that 1 million units will be made available for the territory. The 20GB model may follow later in the year if consumer demand is high enough.

Over 30 game titles will be available for the European launch, either through a physical disc, or online via the Playstation network. These will include Resistance: Fall of Man, Motorstorm, Formula One Championship Edition and Ridge Racer. Downloadable games available will be Gran Turismo HD Concept, Tekken: Dark Resurrection as well as a plethora of puzzle games.

The sixaxis controller will retail for ?34.99 in the UK, while HDMI, AV and Component cables will retail for ?17.99 each. In the press release Sony said “Concurrent with the European launch, a new System Update to further enhance the entertainment potential of PS3 will be issued.”

While the price, lack of freebies, and delayed launch may be a kick in the teeth for some consumers, the lack of a stellar football game seems an insane omission when releasing the game into such a soccer orientated culture.
