channi011 write this Solution to Windows Vista Validation update (KB929391) - READ CAREFULLY AND FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS.
This is for all you people, like me who were foolish enough to install the KB929391 Validation Update. After at least 3 hrs of hard work I have finally come up with a valid solution to this problem. The process is quite simple, yet confusing so read carefully.
1) Make a new Windows live account, and obtain a brand new RC1 beta key, once obtained write it down on a piece of paper. (The one you used to activate Vista Ultimate is useless now)
2) Reboot your computer into SAFE MODE
3) Make sure you computer is set to "View Hidden Files" and you have "Full Administrative Access"
4) Delete the following 2 files-
C:WindowsSystem327B296FB0-376B-497e-B012-9C450E1B7327-2P-0.C7483456-A289-439d-8115-601632D005A0"
C:WindowsSystem327B296FB0-376B-497e-B012-9C450E1B7327-2P-1.C7483456-A289-439d-8115-601632D005A0"
5) Reboot your PC and log in
6) You will get a message saying something along the lines of " There has been a change to your Windows Activation Process" ( I cant remember what it exactly said but you'll see it, it will prevent you from going into your pc, unless you activate Vista or restart). It will give you the following 2 options-
i) Validate Windows online
ii) Close
If you click "Close" you will be sent back to your login
If you hit the "Validate Windows Online" thing (dont know the exact words) you will go to WGA Check and it will say " Your Version of Microsoft Windows is Not Genuine
7) Click on the top first option " Validate Windows Online" (Again, i dont remember the exact words, so dont be stupid, its the first option above "Close")
8) After clicking "Validate Windows Online" it will say "Your copy of Windows is not Genuine" and it will take back to the screen with the 2 options again-
i) Validate Windows Online
ii) Close
9) Manually restart the computer
10) This time it will say something like " There has been a change in the windows product key" ( Again don't quote me on the text, its a window that provides you with the opportunity to type in your product key, if the vista login shows up, then just login and it the product key window will appear.
11) Put your new product RC1 product key
12) There you have it, now your Windows Vista Ultimate Edition is activated again.
13) Go into your Control Panel, updates, and disable automatic updates
14) Enjoy Vista and don't TURN ON THE AUTOMATIC UPDATES, READ THEM, RESEARCH THEM, BEFORE YOU INSTALL THEM
End Note Important- Now you will notice that in the updates the update KB929391 is still there, yes it is, but go into your System and your Windows is activated......I have restarted several times with network support and everything seems to be working.

sounds nice!
for updates they give you 3 options select the 2nd one and before you download the updates you "view updates" and check the ones you want to install ... i know this is done manually but is the solution listed above automatically doesnt download validation updates ?
can i download th updates for windows defender? also vsta is buggy! there is no use of vista until it is updated. so there sould be a crack that work with winows update!!!
thx.
benna
benna, you're an idiot. yes you can download the the updates for windows defender if you can read the update. and if you want to update vista, buy the f'in os. that way you can stop begging or harassing people for a crack.
well, update's not working, the only benefit is absence of those "you need to activate" "software not genuine" windows
thx all the same
firstly, nice try but no cigar- but we really appreciate the effort.
as for people who may be considering installing vista itself:
vista has a better gui than xp and isn't much of a memory hog but is really not worth installing at the moment unless you want to develop for it- few drivers have been made for it. little software uses dx10, the driver certificate can be a drag, the aero interface is not much to write home about (and is easily 'emulated' with freeware), the sidebar is a waste of time (try it in xp if you are interested), most of the current programs can be downloaded and used in xp and there is not yet a decent crack for the x64 version (not to mention the current lack of x64 software which would utilise it!). i am sure vista will be a must-have os in a year's time, but quite frankly everyone is better off with windows 2000, xp, linux or os x (despite it's crap software library, it's not half bad if you have compatible x86 hardware).
i know this is a 'vista-friendly zone', but for anyone who is curious about dual-booting os x natively, make sure you use the 'chain0' method if you are using a second partition on a single hdd and ensure it is a 'primary' partition.
and finally (completely off-topic): buy a psp- they are great and now run psx software. dog's bollox!
this is stupid. why not just 'disable updates' in the start?
this didn't work for me. as you said after the reboot you could type in a rc1 code. and i got a fresh code
from microsoft but it didn't buy it :( so i have to reinstall it again. :p tnx anyway :)
thank you....at first i really done it successfully, but after vista is activated, i just forgot to stop the
update, when i restart the computer in just 5 minutes, it became not genuine again....=.="
worked fine for me, btw in case you forget to turn the auto updates off, you still have the chance to do it
over again. windows should be free, its an operating system, how are we supossed to operate our computers?.
omg
