On Dec. 7, Firefox had a 10.7 percent share on computers running Microsoft's Windows operating system, an increase from 9.84 percent seven weeks earlier.
By contrast, IE usage dropped to 88.2 percent, from 89.1 percent.
Opera Software ASA's Opera and other browsers made up the rest.
Firefox's relative usage is often higher on weekends because many businesses have only IE installed on their machines, boosting Microsoft's share.
WebSideStory found growing adoption of IE 7, which Microsoft released on Oct. 18. The new version had 16.3 percent of overall U.S. browser usage as of Dec. 7. Firefox 2, which debuted Oct. 24, had a 3.12 percent share that day.
Combined, that means nearly one in five used a new browser.

why dont people realise that opera is a lot better than ff and ie?
why don't people realise that enforcing your opinion on others is foolish?
i use ie as little as
possible and i use ff all the time. i haven't used opera since 2003. it's a personal choice.
...but if you want new features, after they have been there for years in other browsers you should use ie.
there is a long list of features that opera had before ff ripped them off, or somebody built an extension to
copy it.
i once tried to have all features in ff that ive come to like in opera. i ended up
installing 10+ extensions, which made ff instable as hell, and most of these extensions didn work as i
expected them to.
here are just a few facts:
-opera was the first browser (of the three)
to pass the acid2 test (for standard compliance)
-it was the first browser to have close buttons on all
tabs
-opera was the first to have the most complete session management features like:
-recovering
from a crash with your latest session being restored
-having a list of all closed tabs, and being able to
restore every one of them.
- the list goes on...
now firefox has copied almost every single
one of these features, and who knows what they will copy next. every time the development team of ff announces
a new feature, im like: "wow, ive used that for years now... didnt know ff users had to miss out on that".
i guess thats just how things are: the worse a browser is, the more people use it (see ie).
opera is the only browser that currently has no unfixed vulnerablities. (yes! even firefox has unfixed
security flaws!)
