it doesn't work, keeps giving the same error over and over 'rpc server unavailabe'

make sure you enter the cd key before setting up the kms server. i enter the cd key and it gets rid of the rpc error.

i was wondering has it worked for anyone else so far?

the activation via this method only provides activation for 6 months (179 days) - so an alternative will need to be sorted by then or maybe the owners of the server will have something updated by then? nevertheless it is a great help for testing purposes of course :d

ps: to check the activation expiry and details enter this from a cmd window (running in admin mode)

this is so great! by the way, anyone knows exactly how the reactivation works?

key management service (kms), does not include any direct communication with microsoft's servers. rather, it requires systems to be activated against one centralized server which is not hosted by microsoft but the business itself. every 180 days client systems must activate against the kms server, although activation will typically occur each time the client enters the corporate network. as you can see, the kms is ideal for environments where the users are constantly connected to a company's network.


will this disable the mce portion of vista?

i've got vista rtm enterprise, which also uses kms. can i use this same method on it?

slmgr.vbs -dlv;4, inspected activation slmgr.vbs -dlv;
they will call it a day

why do we have a vmware image? cant you just release the server software?

if we had the server software (and the source code would be nice) we could activate by setting the server to localhost.

nothing can stop ms from resecuring the server.

the torrent is one big rar-file [1.53gb]. does anybody know if there is a password on it?

the server is set up in china. how the hell is msft gonna go over to china and be like "hey, nock it off!" the point of kms activation is to make activation independent of mccrosoft

they will probably just blacklist the product key via windows updates, just like they do with xp and wga.

these are files which run in vmware virtual machine. dl this proggy from a bt site then copy the the whole unrared kms folder to the "virtual machines" folder to your c drive. the go open virtual machine where you can open these files

when should i type the cd key, during installation or after ??

one thing though, it's a matter of time for microsoft to find out the huge amount of activations with the same key!!!

this works like a charm. ran the image and activated off of it. i would assume i can keep reactivating off of this image because the image says it is permanently activated!

can you tell me how to use the files plz

open the image with vmware 5.5.3 build 34685 (probably other versions will do anyway)
- run it
- see if some hw differences require a reboot (for me it was a different processor)
- configure the vmware virtual network adapter as you prefer (i set it for nat), and eventually reboot again
- check the virtual machine ip address (in my case it was 192.168.255.131)
- disable that machine firewall (you will be using it for activation purposes only)
- in the "real" (or in my case simulated) vista environment open a cmd prompt
- write slmgr -skms ip, where ip is the ip of the virtual machine with the kms server, and wait for confirmation
- write slmgr -ato to activate, and wait for confirmation
- if everything went ok, use slmgr -dlv to take a look at your new 180 days

the cd key is specific to the edition you are installing. so if you use the supplied key it will be the business edition.

how can everyone just use something like that? i mean, it could be logging all ips to start prosecutions? right?
and that kms image is a corrupted torrent file, or so my program told me...

paesan, have you rolled the clock forward on your vista busines vm and tried to activate through your server image. if so did it extend the timer?

i rolled the clock foward and it automatically extended my activation for another 6 months, however windows update said it encountered a problem. this might be due to the date be out of wack.
for me this is all in fun because i have a free copy of business edtion coming in the mail. i participated in the free offer by watching 3 web casts.

in theory you should have that in 8 weeks, but they ran out of copies very fast since it was posted on fatwallet and slickdeals, so i doubt they will be able to honor many of the "free copies". i know that i got nocked out of it even though i did the webcasts and ordered.

just installed it and followed instruction worked prefectly....am downloading updates as i am typing....

because they changed the status to "sold out" and they haven't responded to any emails that i have sent them. they weren't expecting hundreds of thousands of hits all of a sudden and probably only had a few thousand free copies in reserve to work with.

in the instructions above... what is the best way to check the virtual machines ip address?

since we do have offices in china im sure its just a matter of time before sito.kmip.net is shut down per a vialation of kms licensing in china. then a week or so later a new server will pop up and we will be killing that server as well.

and then a crack will surface and you will kill yourself as well

then windows update will validate activation system in vista.

2)this method is only for business version? i still have an unused rc2 ultimate key here, can i use it?
3)if i undestood correctly, if i use the image from vmware, i can activate even without having connected to internet, is this correct? because my network card is not automaticaly recognized by vista, i want to activate with the vmware image to see if it works, before update my network card drivers.

everytime i'm installing vista, and its on the step "completing installation" it goes to some blie screen for about 1 second and restarts telling me windows didnt shut down correctly. please help!! was i suppose to format my drive then install, i didnt dso that please hellppp!!

i tried that crack you guys suggested and unfortunately, it does not work. instead i get the following message:

error: 0xc004f039 the computer could not be activated. the key management service could not be reached.

and yes, i did enter the product key for the billgates version and i selected business edition. is there another kms server around?

it seems like you know how, i am downloading the vista_kms.rar torrent. i need your help to show me how to do the offline activation with those files in the vista_kms.rar

the key can not work with bill gates dvd. you need to download the vista final build from this website, not bill gates.

if you would have read the directions on how to make this work you would have saved yourself time and frustration. it will only work with the business and enterprise editions of vista. when installing vista pick the business edition and use the supplied key in the instructions. the keys are specific to certain editions that is how they are able to put all versions on one dvd. this is definitely a work around that is not for the average user.

when i picked that info up, the product key provided for use with that serial was the exact same as that particular iso i downloaded. oh well. guess i'll have to wipe this system clean and put xp back on before the break. and yes, i said that i was using vista business. or could you guys provide a different serial that actually works for the business edition?

the actual server might be toast now. i would activate off of the kms image then you will be in total control.

try to ping sito.kmip.net ..... you will know it's dead or not . any idea ?

i have pinged it. many people have. it returns 127.0.0.1 which is just a localhost ip.

installed my patched bill gates vista build 6000 dvd with the serial above. followed the instructions above and it worked a charm. i have 179 days left and its says it is activated. i never would have believed it.

not that i use vista as nothing really works with it, but thx anyway. will leave it to rot on my spare drive until something worthwhile comes along.

last night i activated my vista busniness last night on my laptop and it was 100% good. i pinged sito.kmip.net before and it timed out. so i guess icmp is off on sito.kmip.net.

i was lucky i burned it to dvd before the patch so was able to redo it and patch it. i had a disk with patch 1 also but never installed it. but the billgates dvd with patch 2 worked and registered with the above method, and allowed updates.

never tried it with my patch 1 disk.

what? that's crazy! but then again, too late now. i abandoned vista and went back to xp on the computer i was testing on (not even mine, as i use a mac). but at least when the actual release comes on january 30, i know vista will work properly on it. maybe by then, i'll be able to find a real crack for the activation and simply integrate it to the vista disc i have now.

i installed as directed and activated using the vm ware "server." worked great. then i set the bios clock ahead one year, unplugging the internet. log in to vista and try but cannot reactivate using vmware install/kms crack. i get error 0xc004f038 "the computer could not be activated. the returned count from your key management service is insufficient."

any thoughts before i blow away the install?

it'll be a while before i give up xp. besides i paid £260 for my retail version. wish i hadn't as i still get the not genuine message at times. bloody annoying speaking to someone and having to enter a 50 mile long list of numbers to register it again.

if microsoft give me my £260 back i'll take a copy of vista. until then they can kiss my (stupid i paid £260 for a microsoft product) ass!

the original server may be offline now or online sporadically.

vista kms.rar is a compress images (kinda like a zip file of the torrent file of the vmware machine that has a kms host server running. so you can activate your own vista business editions.

so... i wouldnt need to dl from vmware.com i could just dl that and use it. are instructions included?

the "site thing" may go down and you cant activate. the vmware images means you can activate it when ever you want bc its looking for activation server on the vmware machine

im on ultimate right now and all i had to do was use the binbin.xicp.net site and its activated now

i think that it is possible that you may need to re-extract the kms server from the rar and try to reactivate with a fresh copy. in addition, you should have set your date 180 days ahead and reactivated and then 180 days ahead again and tried again. going a year out at one time seems a little extreme.

is there a list of all the public kms server that can be used here. so far i have only seen the 2.

a keygen wont really do much good since vista will need to be activated. but as far as i know there are not any yet.

i used to be able to click some icon on the toolbar and all my windows would pop up sideways so i could choose witch window i wanna view. the option is not there anymore. does anyone know how i can get that option back?

i originally installed vista under ultimate edition and put the rc1/rc2 crack patch in it. since then the 30 day countdown was slowly dying away. so i used slmgr.vbs -skms binbin.xicp.net and then slmgr.vbs -ato in the command prompt using administrator options. my vista was shown as activated after that.

it was the winbeta release..

i have the aio vista from beta which contains vista 86x and vista 64x, and i am sure that that dvd will not work with the cd given key above. it said to me that the key is invalid. so i used the final vista dvd which i downloaded from torrentspy.com, and it worked.

the installation works perfect. vista starts, but it can't be activated with any tricks. i don't want to use the rc1/rc2 key method..

can someone tell me how i can run my own kms server?
i have installed the vmware workstation and runned the server downloaded from the net. then i have gone to the server settings i have chosen the last subwindow called nat. there i have seen the ip. i have set off both real firewall and virtual firewall.
i entered in the cmd and i typed slmgr -skms ip but after some seconds it says that the rpc server is not avaible or somenthing similar.
what's my mistake?

when i ping binbin.xicp.net:1688 i get no response but when i ping binbin.xicp.net i do try it without :1688.

for the ones with difficult in getting the kms image server in torrent, try the emule. i´ve downloaded it in one night. currently i am uploading at 60 kbs only this file.
i have intallled the business version and it is working.
i have activated it offline with the image, following the instructions.

in vmware i set the ethenet adapter as nat. then inside the virtual machine i go to cmd and type ipconfig. there i can get the ip of the virtual machine. in real vista , i go to cmd and try to ping the virtual machine. (ping 200.999.999.99 depends on the ip of your virtual machine) at first it cant ping the virtual machine, because it comes with the firewall turned on. go to the control panel in the virtual machine and turn it off. then i tried to ping it again and it worked. then i just entered the activation commands and its done.

my only question is if this method only works with the business edition. i would like to try it in the home premium edition, but i will only have time to test this tonight(i live in brazil the world zone time is different here).

if someone tests other than the business version, please post it here.

and for the ones who dont know the difference from business to businessn edition, is that the versions with "n" in the final dont come with windows media player installed(seems to be an europe/microsoft legal issue)

quando voce fez o download do arquivo, basta descompactar o conteudo pra uma pasta. voce tem q ter o vmware instalado. dentro do vmware va no menu e peça pra ele abrir os arquivos da maquina virtual na pasta onde voce dewcompactou. depois é so rodar a maquina virtual. provavelmente ela vai ter que rebotar uma vez, por causa da mudança de hardware do processador. antes disso já desabilite o firewall da maquina virtual e veja o ip (com o comando ipconfig no dos) ah, não esqueça de colocar a placa ethernet como nat.
depois é so digitar os comandos que estão no topo deste tópico e ativar, substituindo o nome do site(que já foi pro limbo) pelo ip da maquina virtual. lembrando que só funciona com windos vista business edition. mas pelo que eu vi faz tudo que o ultimate faz.

some people above asked which editions may be activated using this vmware trick. well, the answer is simple: you can activate only corporate (it means vlm) editions. at this moment, microsoft offers two flavors, windows vista business vlm and windows vista enterprise vlm. both of them work with this kind of "activation" using vmware. i bet some people search for a solution for the most wanted ultimate edition, but enterprise edition lacks only mediacenter feature and frankly, it's just and only for your good, i have never ever used it.

during my instalation procedure, i dont have the option to install "vista enterprise". the options i have are ultimate, home premium and business (not mentioning the basic ones).
what is this ententprise versio? is it another name for the home premium version?

i was able to get this to work with a business install from the billgates release with the patch applied. here are the exact steps i took and recorded for posterity...

1. perform a clean install of windows business edition using the key:

yfkbb-pqjjv-g996g-vwgxy-2v3x8

2. once windows is installed, install vmware workstation and the windows kms server image.

3. disconnect from internet and routers, then reboot.

4. upon restarting, open vmware and choose to open (not run) the server image.

5. on the word 'ethernet' on the right side of the screen double click and choose host only.

6. start the server.

7. in the virtual server environment do the following:

a. disable the firewall
b. reboot
c. go to command prompt and type ipconfig to obtain the ip address of the virtual server

8. in the newly installed windows on your computer (aka the real windows) open a command prompt and ping the ip address of the server. if it can be pinged then everything is working as it should.

9. type the following:

slmgr -skms [ip address of server]

10. after confirmation type the following:

slmgr -ato

11. confirmation of activation should follow. use slmgr -dlv to verify if you would like.

12. in 6 months run the server and start at step 7c to renew your activation.

sometimes it happens an error in step 9. (rpc server error )

just go so the screen of system information (the one that shows the vista rating and if it is activated) and click in the option "change key".

then enter the key of step 1 (yfkbb-pqjjv-g996g-vwgxy-2v3x8)

try step 9 again and it should work!

this happened to me and to other user here in the forum.

but the kms method definitively works!

it says tha it contains "all languages" in enterprise version. so i presume it hasn´t been released yet. so the chose remains the business version.

1. some people are trying to ping kms servers, this is pointless and unnecessary and won't tell you if the server is up or not, if i have to explain why, maybe you should stick to xp

you are flat wrong! that vmware image including kms server is already activated, bro. it means, you run this vmware stuff only once per 180 days for a couple of minutes, just in order to activate (reactivate) your vlm installation for next 180 days. microsoft can never do anything with that at this point, because the vmware image (when mounted) is always and always the same like it would be installed and legally activated at the very same moment again, again and again. the only thing how ms may fix it is an update of windows vista (via windows update). if you disable this feature, you are off the hook. this method is the first real deal, the first time-unlimited solution. take it or leave it.

it doesn't have anything to do with oem mainboard. it jusst depends on what vl license you're running .
again, kms works for business and enterprise edition (this 2 edition support volume activation key)

i think you have already insstalled oem/retail vista version on yours ..... you need to activate independently through ms by using mak method (make sure you own a copy for yourself), otherwise, reinstall msdn vista edition (vlk) .... it will work for sure .

c. go to command prompt and type ipconfig to obtain the ip address of the virtual server

8. in the newly installed windows on your computer (aka the real windows) open a command prompt and ping the ip address of the server. if it can be pinged then everything is working as it should.

9. type the following:

slmgr -skms [ip address of server]

10. after confirmation type the following:

slmgr -ato

11. confirmation of activation should follow. use slmgr -dlv to verify if you would like.

12. in 6 months run the server and start at step 7c to renew your activation.

13. and look at ur system properties saying windows is activated!

*the only program not working in vista ultimate when ur using the vista business license files is windows media center (error will popup saying software restriction policy etc)games wont run but u can uninstall & renstall it and should work fine!slmgr.vbs -dlv still shows 180days!

ok, i understand the fact that with a vmware image you can set things up so that everytime you boot up the kms server it's as if it was activated just yesterday, however, have people tried changing their clocks forward and doing this kms activation?

cause think about this ... let's say the image of kms was created on dec. 1 and activated with microsoft that day. in 179 days you bring up the kms to reactivate your copy of vista ... everything goes fine cause the kms was activated less than 180 days ago. in another 179 days you bring up kms again, however, since the date now reads november x, 2007, the kms realizes that it needs to communicate with microsoft before it will allow your copy of vista to reactivate. and things don't work again ... now all of this assumes that the kms needs to communicate with ms every 180 days ... can someone confirm this?

so basically, i'm wondering ... has anyone tried this scenario going foward in the future by playing around with their bios date and trying to activate 179 days from now, then 358 days from now, etc.

before ending 30-days vista limit run command prompt and type "slmgr.vbs -rearm localhost" (reset the licensing status of the machine) and now expires never ending until september 2007 enjoy.

just set your virtual network adapter in kms to bridged mode to make it accessible to every machine on your network

i'm fairly certain that kms servers are activated forever and do not contact microsoft... that is why microsoft insisted that kms servers not be made public in its terms.

if however i am wrong... could you not simply set your computers clock to december 1 2006, start a new copy of the server image and activate on this newly extracted server image???

kms doesn't need to communicate with ms for sure .


if you set their date forward 180 days, 360 days, 540 days, etc. on client vista, you also need to do that on kms server .... will that make sense ?

hey thanks for all the replies... all that is fine.. but i often change the date forward (i am a programmer and need to test whether program works for certain dates and stuff).. this change is only in the vista date and not bios date... will that affect the activation? do i need to reactivate again or something then?

i tried your method using the files in the rapidshare link you posted and it didn't work. i first installed them just by copying and then restarting, and after checking the vbs file's output saw that the kms commands were not available and that it still said "windows vista ultimate, retail channel." thinking that it might need a little more of a nudge, i then used the -ilc parameter to have the script install the .xrm-ms file. after restarting one more time, i saw the kms is still not available and that it still says retail channel.

if you set the date ahead in the bios, it will not activate. please see my previous post. i have played for hours. if you simply set your date ahead you can reactivate. if you use the slmgr -dlv command, the minutes and days don't seem to decrease. if you unplug your internet, set the time forward by one or two years, you get the
"the computer could not be activated. the returned count from your key management service is insufficient" error. i have yet to have someone explain this and how to work around it. good luck!


is it possible that the kms server returns back a date saying the windows is activated till that date (instead of minutes)? did you try to change the date in the kms server too and run the activation again? make sure to have the kms date and the client os date the same.

but then if vista is running with a different date that would probably throw things off, and if you set vista to dec 1, 2006, then it will activate for 180 day period from then and when you reset things back to original date it's more than 180 days from dec 1, 2006 and you're in a circle ... unless you're willing to live with the wrong date all the time.

first i intall business ed. no problem.

then using vmware i follow all steps and can activate using today's date - no problem.

if i set the date ahead until, say april 07. i can reactivate no problem. i have noted though, if i set the bios ahead to april (so i think the computer should think that 5 months have past), then use slmgr -dkv, the computer still says 179 days left (so i don't think it is counting down like i expect it to).

so, then i set the bios ahead 1 year to reset the need to activate. after i boot it tells me i have 30 days to activate. when i try to activate vista won't let me, saying "the returned count from your key management service is insufficient." this is after using a fresh kms image, following all directions precisely, entering the product key again, etc. i have tried all combonations, the result is the same.

then, i set the date back to dec 7, 2006, and voila i can activate again.

so, methinks that in 1 year, this wont work. to be fair to srikumar, i did not change the date in the kms server. i will try that next, but i have to go to work so maybe later tonight.

the funny thing is, i don't even want to use this software. i just want to know i could if i wanted to without registering. i hate big brother in all its forms.

who made the release of the kms virtual server said that it can be reactivated easily so calm down.

also, the timer function doesn't at all seem to be linked to the actual date of the computer unless the computer date is set ahead a significant amount of time. i wonder what amount of time the trigger is?!

anyway... who wants to see what happens with the date set ahead one year and the server date set ahead one year?

why are you changing your key?
you do not need to enter a key with kms activation.
are you using the vmware method or trying an internet server?
if using the vmware method make sure that a firewall is not the issue and check the ip address.

is there anyway to setup the vmware/kms server on a different machine and autorize vista overs a local network. i have 2 pc's, one running vista and one running winxp. i would like to setup vmware and the virtual vista on the xp machine and have it license the real vista machine. any step by step (i.e. network settings in vmware)would be appreciated

found an interesting bit of info on a microsoft faq:

q. how are kms activations aged?
a. when a computer activates using a kms, its client machine id (cmid) is added to the n-cache. when the same client renews its activation, the cached cmid and date stamp are removed and the new activation creates a new cache entry. kms clients renew every seven days by default. however, if the client computer does not renew its activation after 30 days, its cmid is removed from the n-cache and the n-count reduces by one. to prevent kms activation aging from bringing n-count below 25, the kms caches the cmids of the most recent 50 activations.

what this is saying is that kms is designed to be in reasonably constant contact with 25 or more computers. if contact is simply with one machine then the count on the kms host will be continually reduced and therefore you will get the insufficient count error that has been described.
the problem then amounts to how to keep the count at 25 or higher.
if the vmware/kms image is somehow liked to a november/december 2006 date (whenever it was originally created) and it picks up new date and time info from the bios of the machine it is installed on, then that is maybe when and why the count is dropped. it thinks - hey it's been 6 months and no computer has made contact. all of a sudden the key count drops to nearly 0.
the solution then might be to turn the clock back on the vmware kms to dec 06 after turning the vista clock forward and then seeing if will renew.

you see i had a windows xp 64 bit edition copy evaluation purposes only (the final build year back or so), using a 180 product key, i first downloaded a the original .iso from microsoft win xp 64 bit server, and editted with magic iso, copies several files from some folder and intergrated them onto the current registry on the current o/s running. changes one of the files from 180 day to "0" unlimited, saved registry settings, recompiled the iso in magic iso, and burned it. installed winxp 64 bit like a charm with the evaluation product key, and obtained fully licensed copy of this with nothing saying "for evaluation purposes only" its been more than 180 days over a year and still works flawlessly, unlimited, and genuine! if we can probably do some similar to this by replacing those files where the old rc1/rc2 keys were, and fix that value of "180" to 0 for unlimited, hopefully we can redeem ourselves finally a full licensed genuine copy of windows vista, could be an alternative if it works. somebody confirm with me the source in how this works, because i forgot the exact procedures, damn, figure it out, and let us all know. thank you

yeah, if you run slmgr -dlv on the kms server before you activate your machine it says that it has 41 connections. after you activate you will have 42. we will need to do some experimenting to find out how the date will affect when those kms machine counts drop out for sure.

it's not so much that we're panicing over this and are not calm, we simply want to figure out a permanent solution. personally i don't like cracks and this is more of a work around than a crack and would be great if it works. if it's not a permanent solution i'm probably gonna buy vista cause it's too much hassle for me to keep up with cracks that get fixed by ms every few months. so let's keep working on this cause this is the most promising solution to date.

well, here is what i know now:

when i activated i and then did slmgr -dli i ended up with 42 for my n-count.

i then set the date back on the server to dec 1 and did slmgr -dli again and my n-count is down to 41 as if i never activated on it (yet my pc is obviously still activated).

i agree... we need someone to have the kms server date set at 12/1/2006 and set their pc to some other date like 8/23/2015. then we will need to see if it can activate... any takers?

ill try it in the morning if nobody beats me to it. right now it has like 30 min left before completing and im just gonna mount the image activate and go to bed.

for those who are having problems activating their vista business edition using the kms method, make sure you key in yfkbb-pqjjv-g996g-vwgxy-2v3x8 during installation, if not, key in after installation under "view computer details - change product key".
also, remember to run the command prompt in admin mode by right clicking the command prompt icon and select "run as administrator".
i was too excited to get my vista activated, thus missed out the 2 steps above during my 1st try.
so, for those who can't activate, make sure you don't miss out the 2 "important" steps above.
by the way, for those who want to activate their vista over physical network, dun forget to change the network setting in vmware to "bridged" mode.

i've tried to change date on real vista to 1 dec 2008 and tried to activate with kms vmware server. if vmware server clock is set to the same date, then it is unable to activate. but when i reset the vmware clock to 1 dec 2006, i am able to reactivate my real vista again.

it means that, after 6 months (12-18 or xx months), before reactivate vista, you should set vmware clock to 1-dec, 2006 and your reactivation will be passed again.

it rocks!

unfortunately your idea wouldn't work since the n-count decreases after 30 days of not hearing from a specific machine ... this site can answer a lot of questions:

basically, if the kms server wakes up after more than a month (or let's say 180 days for our example) it realizes that there aren't more than 25 machines connected to it and it won't activate any requesting machines until 25 machines place a request. now if the kms server date can be different than the vista machine date, then technically we can always wake up the kms server on the same date (within 30 days of hearing from 25 or more machines) and it will activate the machine again. also as a side note, the kms server does not talk to microsoft ever again after being activated itself. so to make this a permanent solution we need to either figure out if we can lower the 25 machine limit to 1 machine or verify that the dates of the kms and vista machines can be way off from each other and not cause any issues.

p.s. that still leaves the issue of these copies probably being marked as non-genuine due to everyone using the same kms server that was activated with the one key.

the instructions have been changed a little bit from earlier... the new steps prevent the time from changing on the kms server, thus ensuring that there are always 41 computers connected when you try to activate and reactivate. thanks to all those who helped put this method together. those of you that test this, please let us know how this works.

1. perform a clean install of windows business edition using the key:

6. start the server.

8. in the newly installed windows on your computer (aka the real windows) open a command prompt and ping the ip address of the server. if it can be pinged then everything is working as it should.

9. type the following:

slmgr -skms [ip address of server]

10. after confirmation type the following:

slmgr -ato

11. confirmation of activation should follow. use slmgr -dlv to verify if you would like.

12. in 6 months run the server and start at step 7c to renew your activation.

activating the ultimate version of vista with the pkeyconfig.xrm-ms & tokens.dat files from business worked, but the business version doesn't support other languages! it's activated, but it's in english only! any installed mui will be ignored!!!

yes paulhacker i have activated my ultimate editio too. it´s just mix the previous method (tokens.dat etc) with the kms server.
dont panic if after a restart windows tell you that your copy is not genuine(and disable control panel). just run slui.exe, and enter the key from the kms server. after keep the procedure of activating with the kms server.

the only thing i noticed is that the games that come with ultimate (chess titan etc, and media center) stopped working.

but i got the great "dvd maker" back, and byte encrytion function.

i think it better than just activate the business version.

wouldn't it be possible to trick the vista by connecting your vista machine directly with cable to another machine, making vista somehow think it's microsoft server and by creating some kind of special app the vista thinks it's activated, using whatever serial key? then there would be just the same old wga problem, but it's cracked now, it'll be cracked then... what about that version?

what about keeping keeping the rar'ed files of the kms server and extracting from new in six months?

activate vista the first time (today for instance), then delete the kms server files. in six months re-extract these files. they would be 'virgin' and unchanged by having been run (and changed) in vmware. then in vmware change the date back to december 9th 2006 and reactivate.

i have that file on my disk...1.53 gig rarfile, but when you unrar/unpacked it will be 4.89gig....i dont now howe to do with it, because you cant burn it on dvd and boot from...here is some information: unlike windows xp and volume activation 1.0 windows vista doesnt have any corporate keys which will permanently activate it. volume activation 2.0 requires a corporate user to either do a one time activation through microsoft servers (mak) or companies can host a local activation server which does not talk to microsoft (kms). the only difference is kms requires re-activation once every 180 days. however as long as theres a local kms server its simple to keep windows activated. this release is a vmware image of a permanently activated kms server which allows local activation of windows vista business/enterprise edition. volume activation 2.0 is only built into those two editions. install vista business/enterprise edition with the key xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. using the latest vmware workstation, boot the image. disable vmware firewall. on the non vm vista right click the command prompt icon and run as admin. type ... cscript c:\\windows\\system32\\slmgr.vbs -skms vm_vista_ip cscript c:\\windows\\system32\\slmgr.vbs -ato windows should now be activated. to check activation status type ... cscript c:\\windows\\system32\\slmgr.vbs -dlv tested using echos windows vista enterprise and vmware workstation 5.5.3 but seems to have issues with the billgates windows vista business.

ok here is what i did.

1. disconnected my pc from the internet by removing the network
cable .
2. installed vm player "vmware-player-1.0.3-34682.exe"
3. extracted the server files from the "vista_kms.rar" file to my documents under ":\my virtual machines\vista_kms folder
4. modified the "windows vista (experimental).vmx" file with windows notepad and added the following lines right at the top

tools.synchronize.restore=false
tools.synchronize.resume.disk=false
tools.synchronize.shrink=false

and saved the .vmx file

5. used vmplayer to launch the .vmx file so that the virtual machine is loaded. the virtual machine needed a reboot to adjust to my real machine processor.

6. changed the "ethernet" option to "nat" from the top of the vmplayer window. rebooted.

7.on reboot, the virual machine asked me to "set network location" from 3 options "home" or "work" or "public location". i chose "home".

8. then from the virtual machine control panel i turned off windows firewall for the virtual machine. rebooted virtual pc.

9. i turned off firewall in my main real pc.

10.i ran the command prompt in the virtual pc and typed ip config in it. my ipv4 ip is shown as 192.168.145.128 along with other details

11. i launched the command prompt in my main real pc with "run as administrator".

12. i pinged 192.168.145.128 from my main real pc command prompt to check whether it can connect to my virtual pc ipv4 ip.

it can connect properly with zero percent packet loss.

13. but when i type

5. on the word 'ethernet' on the right side of the screen double click and choose host only. (if youw ould like the image to be available to other computers on your network then choose bridged mode.)

6. start the server.

7. in the virtual server environment do the following:

a. disable the firewall
b. reboot
c. go to command prompt and type ipconfig to obtain the ip address of the virtual server

8. in the newly installed windows on your computer (aka the real windows) open a command prompt and ping the ip address of the server. if it can be pinged then everything is working as it should.

9. type the following:

slmgr -skms [ip address of server]

10. after confirmation type the following:

slmgr -ato

11. confirmation of activation should follow. use slmgr -dlv to verify if you would like.

12. in 6 months run the server and start at step 7c to renew your activation.

-games (it works but u need to uninstall reinstall it first)

2. copy your windows vista business edition pkeyconfig.xrm-ms & tokens.dat to your windows vista ultimate edition pkeyconfig.xrm-ms & tokens.dat overwriting & replacing it!

you don't need to uninstall/reinstall the games to work, just got to control panel then double click programs and features, at the left pane open the "turn the windows features on and off',(wait) then check the checkbox that correspond to games, then click ok.

type this command in "command prompt" and you will see the day your cracked windows will be expired.
seems like you are lagging after thousand people here. don;t you know that the changing token, config files cracking method is a waste of time?

hey, i don't know how you guys got the vmware kms server to work, but it has a count of 0 when you first boot it. so when i try to activate against it, it says "the returned count from your kms is insufficient." which means that i have to first -skms from 25 clients, and then it will activate.

of course, this might be a business edition problem. i have the original msdn download that got released later than the torrent ones.

would you recommend downloading enterprise? it does make sense if you ask me...the 25 clients minimum, but hey, if you guys say you did activate using the vmware, i must be doing something wrong.

any ideas?

no matter what kms-server (vmware) i try the -dli command always reports one client.... and it has to be 25+ to work...

a. open the file windows vista (experimental).vmx in a text editor
b. add the following lines to this configuration file:

tools.synchronize.continue=false
tools.synchronize.restore=false
tools.synchronize.resume.disk=false
tools.synchronize.shrink=false
rtc.starttime = "1164286430"

c. save and exit the .vxm file

adding this in your vm file you have 41 clients ;)

then set your clock forward to 1.december 2011 and vista will still work again. i just tested it a few minutes ago...

it still shows 0 clients connected (or 1 when i set the machine i'm trying to activate to it's ip)

ok, got it to work!

unpack the vmware image again, but do not launch it!

open the .vmx-file (windows vista (experimental).vmx) in a text editor

add the following lines to this configuration file:

tools.synchronize.continue=false

tools.synchronize.restore=false

tools.synchronize.resume.disk=false

tools.synchronize.shrink=false

rtc.starttime = "1164286430"

save the file, then boot the vmware image. the issue is that vmware updates internally with the same date/time as your real computer, which resets the registered clients to 0 which makes registering impossible. the additions to the file makes vmware simply continue on the last date instead of updating it with the real time.

at 22:35, which was about an hour ago, microsoft released their first validation update for windows vista.
okay, when i saw "windows vista validation update (kb929391)", i knew "yeah, don't install that update". i went to install the other update that downloaded, and i minimized the update centre, while i did something else on my computer.

when i flipped back to the update centre, i accidently clicked to install the validation update.
i was like "oops", so i tried to cancel, and it just ignored me. so my first reaction was to restart to see what would happen and if i would get locked out. all i got was this message:
"this copy of microsoft windows is not genuine".
then i landed on my desktop with the aero theme disabled.

well, i decided to revert to the restore point before that update installed. but guess what? it didn't work, infact, i tried twice. no matter what restore point you go to, the new validation update won't let go.

whilst all it's done is disable my updates and disable aero, i've just found out that my vista will poop in 3 days. so could someone mind helping me delete/crack this update?

if anyone could upload the original vista files from:
c:\windows\system32\licensingpkeyconfigpkeyconfig. xrm-ms

ok, i've got the kms image running with vmware and have sucessfully got it talking to vista. but, when i use the slmgr -ato command it keeps telling me that the return count from my key management service is insufficient!! i've added the lines to the .vmx and all??

for those having problems, just read the instructions posted here (they've even been posted multiple times). this really isn't that hard a thing to pull off. if you can't figure it out maybe you shouldn't be trying to pirate vista in the first place :p

i did everything the way it is described here: got the enterprise vista, got the kms server on vmware, installed, activated against my virtual machine, it said i was activated, 179 days whatever... now, only a week later the entire activation crap doesn't work at all, and i get this!!!

looks like the activation server dosent care about the difference between the server and the client dates. tried activation using an actual working vmx file which must contain :

i succesfully activated vista enterprise against the kms server vmware image . it gives me an activated till 6/20/07 date. but will i be able to reactivate again against the same kms server image mounted with vmware when times about up.
