High quality image Vista boot screen

Some people found a way to change that black boot screen of Windows Vista RTM to a high quality one, the one that was supposed to be in before it was cut from the final version.

The only thing I didn't like is that the progress bar doesn't move. If you want one that it moves, the image has to be a 16bit only.

Installatin instructions:

1. Take ownership of the folders %SystemRoot%\system32\en-US and %SystemRoot%\system32\Boot\en-US, then give yourself RW privileges.

2. Take ownership of the files %SystemRoot%\system32\en-US\winload.exe.mui and %SystemRoot%\system32\Boot\en-US\winload.exe.mui, then give yourself RW privileges.

3. Select your screen aspect ratio (most screens are 4:3, 1280*1024 ones are 5:4, most widescreens are 16:9, some notebooks are 16:10) and the wanted progress bar color.

4. Copy winload.exe.mui from the folder that contains your chosen bar color and screen aspect ratio version (for example, greenbar\4.3) to %SystemRoot%\system32\en-US and %SystemRoot%\system32\Boot\en-US, overwriting previous files.

5. Enable "No GUI Boot" using Msconfig (if it isn't enabled yet).

Uninstallation Instructions

1. If you had "No GUI Boot" disabled before installing this boot screen, disable it using Msconfig.

2. Copy winload.exe.mui from the "Original" folder to %SystemRoot%\system32\en-US and %SystemRoot%\system32\Boot\en-US, overwriting any previous files.

By General_Brazil69 on 02.12.2006 - 02:12
these are my bootscreens, done with my photoshop, done with my everything. how dare anyone put these up on here without proper fucking credit, especially some retarded nub claiming it's his. if you nubs don't believe me, here is the real link to my deviation.

if you guys want proof i will host the psds anyday.

-general_brazil69

um, no

By Predator on 03.12.2006 - 00:12
i tried the mediafire link and it says it's been removed. this download from any of the links above is a zip file containing just pictures to use for boot, not making any sense following the included instructions. if you know how to put a bmp in for your boot screen then have at it. the guy above me has the link to the same stuff.

Shame

By northener69 on 06.12.2006 - 00:12
nice work general_brazil69, shame we can't use them. as predator has stated it's been removed!

About the progress bar

By General_Brazil69 on 23.12.2006 - 07:12
if you guys plan on doing that, then give proper credit. and please stop uploading my stuff to other websites. keep the download on deviantart or ask my permission via e-mail to upload it. i really do not appreciate it people doing this...

Oh yeah...

By General_Brazil69 on 23.12.2006 - 21:12
since these bootscreens were specifically made for windows vista, there is no way you can get a progress bar because "noguiboot" doesn't use a progress bar.
