the patch that is supposed to make the billgates version a legit msdn version has a different sha-1 then what is posted above, so i would guess from that, it would not be considered a legit msdn

msdn keys won't help, because "msdn subscription product keys can be used to activate software on up to 10 computers." what we need is volume license product keys. but ms has done something on vlk this time.. serious bug in windows explorer would definately be an understatement, my control panel, desktop personalization, windows update and system information stuff appeared only for one session. after restart, poof, suddenly they don't appear.

i would imagine that the product id is also different. i do not know why they keep blocking it out when they post the picture, as it is not the key, it is just the product id, but maybe i am wrong... :)

product id is the same as the windows key that is used for activation.

vista and office 2007 are all download only for msdn and technet. it will take them awhile to ship on disc.

microsoft said supposedly pirated copies of its new vista computer operating system "will be of limited value" to those who use them. microsoft responded tuesday to reports that some web sites have been circulating pirated copies of vista and the office 2007 applications suite.

the pirated vista comes with a product key that users can enter to activate a version of the products on their computers without paying for them, according to a report on the web site of the sydney (australia) morning herald newspaper. a product key is a unique serial number tied to each package of a software product.

a second download, called an "activation crack," can then be applied that bypasses the activation process intended to guarantee that the vista os being downloaded is legitimate, the herald reported. pirated copies of office 2007 can be downloaded just with the product key with no second activation code required. but microsoft said in a prepared statement that those pirated copies of the os won't work for long.

you don't need a key. just install the version you wan't.

you don't need a key for installation. of course you need a key for activation. the only way to activate it riht now, is to change some files and use a rc1 key.
but i wouldn't recommend this method, because microsoft can easily find out that this version isn't genuine.
but his method works well:

windows vista time crack step by step guide
1. disconnect internet cables.
2. boot into bios and set year to 2099.
3. install windows vista.
4. upon first boot configure and disable online time sync in time & date properties.
5. connect to internet.
6. view system properties so it shows 30 days left on activation.
7. reboot into bios and set to current year.
8. boot into vista and run “slmgr.vbs –dlv” it should report about 43192 minutes left on evaluation.
9. reboot and run “slmgr.vbs –dlv” again it should report 43192 minutes again.
10. your done. steps 11 and forward are optional…
11. to fully verify reboot into bios and set date ahead 7 days.
12. boot into vista and check system properties for 30 days left and verify with “slmgr.vbs –dlv” that it is back to 43192 minutes left.

alain3363 is right, the md5 in what is being called the real msdn release is listed above by me also. i have also compaired the files inside the releases for their md5's only 1 file is different, and it is the one that contains the installed files themselves. see the details here.

sorry but i also wanted to add to what i just posted.

being that the main file (install.wim) has a different md5 hash in what should be the original msdn vista release, and the patched billgates has the same md5 hash for this file, i would have to say that the patch really changes nothing if files are compaired instead of just the dvd itself. of course not knowing what the checksums should really be other than what has been published above for the sha-1 would lead me to believe nothing right now, and i would need official confirmation of what the checksum should be for all of the files, that is official confirmation, which i have seen none as yet.

the patch has a effect that it fixes the bug that the billgates one couldn't be installed in a virtual drive. after that patch, there is no more the copying files error when finishing 4x% in a virtual drive.

okay, there is only one file that is different.
i'm comparing "billgates+old msdn patch" to this real msdn version. i don't have the unpatched billgates anymore but i know that "billgates+old msdn patch" is closer to real msdn than just billgates with no patch.
the old patch listed on this page changed 3 files. well, 2 files but 1 was in 2 different places.
now, if you apply the new patch to the unpatched billgates or if you download the official msdn version like i did, then the only difference between the real msdn version and the "billgates+old msdn patch" version is the file "migcore.dll". it's located in:
sources/migcore.dll
support/migwiz/migcore.dll

and here are the differences:

microsoft did not order the removal the torrent below yet. luckily, i just got the download, and burned it on a cd. expect to get above 200 kb/s. i verified whether or not this is fake, it is not. it is also much different than the pirated copy. also in the boot screen, and performance. funny to say, if you want to view the logo in the boot screen, go to run, msconfig, boot, and then no-gui boot. have fun! yes!~ hooray!!!

to request: based on the md5, you have billgates w/ msdn patch 1, not msdn 2. you want to patch it to msdn 2 which is the official release.

ok, i just checked the msdn version. the msdn patch 2 will convert billgates to the official msdn release. the md5s for the entire iso, install.wim, and migcore.dll are all the same. i don't know what confused sob was saying, but the patch works!

m$ released an update yesterday which disables vista rc1/2 keys via automatic updates. hah who uses that anyways. it just puts it back to 30 days w/o aero

rtm bill gates is not the real rtm. it was released before the msdn version. it also has a few bugs like upgrading from xp freezes the computer with bill gates release. the msdn version was actually release from the msdn website to subscribers.

the one of the activation files, tokens.dat, is different, but i do not know how it actually affects the types of keys that can be entered. most people use the "beta swap" method and this works on both, but i believe there are more activation bugs with billgates because i have experienced them myself. if you are asking if one is already patched, they are not.
