Downloading Questions

By Learning.. Educating.. on 12.05.2006 - 21:05
folks lets take a moment and understand everyones backgrounds. some know a lot and others very little. let's keep our attitudes in check and try to help out each other. i really don't see the value in blasting someone for their lack of knowledge. the internet is the largest learning tool that was not available 20 years ago. we all need help every once in a while.

downloading from sites like this one:

if you are downloading anything from this site or others like this one you are on your own. the site is not responsible for providing anything that is offered here. this site is only a file/torrent conduit for these type of downloads. the files don't even reside on this server they reside on 1000's of users computers that share the download called seeding via a bit torrent client.

fyi:

plus if you think that this is as easy as downloading a ms update you are mistaken. the many files are usually in .rar format and you have to extract the many pieces into the actual file that will give you the ability to burn the iso file to a dvd and then install it.

understand what your getting:

another thing about the vista download is that it is only good for 15 days because you cannot activate it unless you have been assigned a individual product key directly from microsoft that only you can use. if you use the ones that are given out you will be able to install the product but not activate it for usage past the 15 day trial period. if you try activate it you receive the error "activation failed, this product id has already been used by someone else".

logical:

"don't burn that bridge you just crossed you may need it later"
"can't we all just get along????"

wtf

By diablos on 14.05.2006 - 09:05
i dont have a dvd burner..... so can i still use vista???

activation code

By sam on 14.05.2006 - 09:05
hey can some one tell me what those codes are they don't even work

has any one got the right code for windows vista 64-bit pre-beta 2 (build 5381)

What Happens After?

By Sam_gtafanattic on 16.05.2006 - 01:05
so this beta lasts 15 days? what happens after the 15 days? does it revert back to xp?(or your whatever previous os you had) will system restore work? if anyone can answer my stupid questions it'd be a great help :p

after 15 days

By waqas on 16.05.2006 - 10:05
after 15 days windows vista must require activation and without activation cannot start and ur not able to login.

windows vista activation

By waqas on 16.05.2006 - 10:05
"open msconfig:
start\run and type msconfig

in the window move to the services tab.
uncheck both of the following:
software licensing service and sl ui notification service

this will keep the activation from running and the second stops windows from continually reminding you that this has happened.
your product is unregistered, but will continue to run."

it'll run normally without activation or a serial needed.

Cant download

By Danny on 16.05.2006 - 11:05
i cant download the files via rapidshare, it said that the files has been deleted, and these are forbidden to be shared. can you reupload that?

Is this possible?

By Sam_gtafanattic on 16.05.2006 - 11:05
is it possible to revert back to xp at any stage, in case something goes majorly wrong?

Problems

By Learning...Educating... on 16.05.2006 - 18:05
i'll answer a couple of the questions since i have tried all:

dvd burner or not that is the question:

you don't have to have a dvd burner if you use a virtual drive software that can create a virtual cd/dvd drive (you might find one free on the internet) on your computer's hard drive then you can burn the image using cdburnerxp pro which is free to this virtual cd/dvd drive. the computer will not know the difference between the dvd and the virtual cd/dvd drive version that you created. best bet is to go out and purchase the dvd burner for $30.00 and use it as a backup device with dvd-rw disks.

hack/fix for activation:

using the msconfig route to stop services slows down your computer and disables the control panel and a couple of other programs that i really wanted to use once vista was up and running.

the dll hack/fix causes errors on the computer and it will lock up every now and then.

reverting back to xp once vista has been installed:

vista can be installed two ways and removal of vista depends on how you installed it.

1) if you install vista as an upgrade to your current operating system, you cannot uninstall vista to go back to your original xp installation. the only way to go back is to create a disk image of your hard drive before installing vista and apply it after vista expires/times out.

2) if you installed vista as a custom install and chose a different drive/partition to install it on then the boot manager will display a message asking you everytime you start your computer which operating system you wish to boot up. (the old one - xp or the new one windows - vista) this option will let you choose your old operating system once vista has expired/timed out and doesn't change anything on your old operating system except boot manager has now been added to the boot record to control the booting process.

anymore questions post them. i monitor this site regularly and try to help whenever i can.

hope this helps...

Learning...Educating...VISTA BUILD 5381 SERIAL KEY

By Baz on 16.05.2006 - 19:05
well done...i totally agree with what you have said...we must help users that dont have the knowledge yet..after all we all had to learn how to do these things...and i think we are always learning....its never finishes no matter how much we think we might know...vista key for build 5381: you can use the same keys as for build 5342/5365 which is pvyfq-2jtbv-9kxq2-fqhdy-mtbvh........good luck guys

Eh... one more thing...

By Sam_gtafanattic on 18.05.2006 - 01:05
i was just wondering, will programs still run after you install the vista beta? things like games, internet, and other applications. thanks for the help!

One more thing...

By Learning...Educating... on 18.05.2006 - 02:05
sam,

games:

i really couldn't tell you which games will work after an upgrade. please remember that this is vista beta version i cannot really say if a game will work or not after the upgrade. games are very sensitive to their operating system environment.

software:

office should still work but again i cannot say because this is still very beta software. i have tried to install some of my programs but my prefectdisk software will not install on vista. there is no error it just will not initialize the setup program.

internet access:

you will have internet access provided by ie 7.0.

media center:

media center yes that's right media center in 5381.1 vista!!!

microsoft's past:

microsoft has worked very hard on making vista backward compatible with most of the software that runs on windows xp but again since this is beta software all capability might not be working or activated in the vista software (eg. things like directx 10) might not work with your games.

***** that's why they call it beta software so you can test out what works and what doesn't and report it to microsoft for them to figure out why... *****

what i notice (media center)

By el culiador on 18.05.2006 - 06:05
hmmmmm.....is it just me...or dose windows media center tv not working?

Media Center TV.

By Learning...Educating... on 18.05.2006 - 17:05
i have a pc that originally came with media center 2005. so when i installed vista the media center tv worked as well did everything else.

i.e. 7.0 error when loading:

i notice that ie 7.0 after loading it displays an error message something about the program not working or shutting down and when the red x is pressed it works just fine. anyone else getting this one???

remember that media center only runs on approved tv cards and all the subcomponents have to install as well when installing vista on a new partition or drive. i noticed that my conexant video capture for my ati x300 aiw and something else didn't install under vista until i ran the online update.

i have a 2.8 ghz ht p-4, 1.5 gb ram, ati x300 video 128mb, 2-20" w/s lcd displays, 1tb of external storage to slice and dice for testing. with this configuration and installing vista in a new drive (and not upgrading windows xp that might have had anything from spyware, adware, malware, yada yada yada...) i shouldn't be having any slowness of video since i don't experience it when running windows media center 2005 on the same machine on two identical internal sata2 hard drives.

what kind of video card do you have??
